Overcoming 100% elemental resistance

In a recent battle, I watched a mage of Man casting lightning bolts and orb lightning at, and killing, mechanical men and living statues.

This struck me as odd sicne I was pretty sure mechanical men were 100% shock resistant. Are there conditions under which 100% reisstance can be overcome?

Are you sure you were watching the battle on a client with the same Version as the server? I know that poison resistance can be overcome, but I thought shock resistance was unbreakable. I am sure I have never seen a mage try to cast elemental spells at immune enemies.

Yep, same Version. Hey it "shocked" me too. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Do penetration items perhaps aid in lowering resistances? Anyone know?

Definitely sounds like a bug. As mentioned above, I'm pretty sure there's only one artifact in the game that can overcome 100% resistance, and it only overcomes poison.

Re: Overcoming 100% elemental resistance

well, i did see my bunch of storm demons trying to take down a 100% lightning immune SC, instead of going after all the vulnerable mages in the back http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

however, they were completely inneffective. Are you sure that mechanical men were actually killed by these bolts and not by something else?

if so, i might venture that perhaps some of the stun component got throught?

Re: Overcoming 100% elemental resistance

I noticed it because the only hostile activity was one mage casting lightning bolts and orb lightning.

If it was stun killing them I suppose that is possible? I am upset I do not have the replay anymore as the game has since hosted. I will watch for it again.

In my experience, lightning casting mages will actually not even cast the spell if thier target of choice is lightning-immune. I saw this with a couple of seraphs scripted to lightning and orb lightning that faced off against a lightning immune SC. They just cast Phantasmal Warriors and whatnot instead.

Now, I am not saying that troops will not attack enemies that they cannot
damage, but in the example, above, this is not the case. Storm demons'
first attack has a physical component, and, theoretically, can hurt anyone.

I have never seen mages cast spells against enemies immune to the attack
type, and I have seen troops stand still because there was nothing they
could damage.

The original post describes something that looks like a bug.

Re: Overcoming 100% elemental resistance

they were firing those little lightning balls. those have a physical component?

ie. they were set on "fire" and were lobbing all their shots at the 100% immune SC instead of anything good (though further away).

I've tested the TC: S&A demons of heavenly fire against fire-immune stuff. They fly over and attack one turn, then flee immediately. It was quite funny.
