Using multiple mods?
I did a search and read the FAQ, but I didn't find the answer.
I want to use the B5 mod and Fyrons quadrant mod. Is this possible? Is there a way to tell SEIV to use multple mods in the mod path? Would I for example, overwrite the original SEIV files with the quadrant mod and then refer to the B5 mod? If I understand correctly the image pak I go ahead and overwrite the orignal files. Events, components, planets and facilities....correct? Thanks. |
Re: Using multiple mods?
From easiest to hardest:
Overwrite the original files when using the Image mod. I believe it only matters for the Combat file though, which has different pictures from the regular game. I do not know if the event mod can safely overwrite the basic file. Is it only checked for the host/game creator, or does it matter when playing the game? There are instructions on how to combine the FQM mod and any other mod (TDM is given as an example, but it can be applied to most mods as well). You should make a copy of the B5 mod, put the files specific to the FQM mod (as explained in the help file) in the copy of the B5 directory, and the appropriate files in your basic Pictures repertory. It will overwrite the standard quadrants offered by B5 though, if there has been any major change done to them. |

Don't overwrite with the B5 mod, or you'll never get it back to plain. Make sure you've applied all patches, because a patch from Malfador can overwrite the mod data files. Quote:

Re: Using multiple mods?
And here you have quoted a perfect example of "how I can be so clear I barely understand myself". It should have been "It only matters for the combat file, which replaces the previous file, though it keeps all of the original pictures".
Quite a difference between the two indeed. Feel free to slap me if you wish my Posts to become a tad bit clearer, or perhaps throw a mundane Battlemoon at me, filled with the heaviest weaponry you can set your hands on. |
Re: Using multiple mods?
Well hd space is not an issue for me, so I have installed SEIV twice. Once for Atrocities ST mod and again for Bab 5.
If I want to play multiplayer, I will install another copy. So, with that said, can I go ahead and overwrite the "stock" files with fyron's mod? I followed the directiosn for combining the TDM and FQM (replacing TDM with the Bab 5 mod) and it altered the Bab 5 mod. How did Atrocities combine it with his ST mod? Any suggestions on combining the FQM mod and Bab 5 mod? |
Re: Using multiple mods?
That is fairly pointless... SE4 is designed to handle having dozens of mods installed at once, each in it's own mod folder.

I DID follow the directions (as I stated before) and it screwed up the bab 5 mod. I think your directions instruct you to copy over too much. Your instructions tell me to overwrite SPECIFICALLY these files. DefaultStrategies.txt Formations.txt PlanetSize.txt SectType.txt Settings.txt StellarAbility.txt SystemTypes.txt QuadrantTypes.txt Some of those files overwritten mess up Bab 5. So the directions DON'T help. Would it be appropriate to only overwrite the following files? PlanetSize.txt SectType.txt StellarAbility.txt SystemTypes.txt QuadrantTypes.txt |
Re: Using multiple mods?
Are you running SE4 Gold 1.91? Specifically, a Version of B5 Mod that has been made playable in Gold?
The instructions are still helpful in that they tell you which files are modified by FQM. You have to merge them into the mod you are combining FQM with... TDM is just a special case in that it doesn't modify the data files (other than Formations.txt). As stated previously, you will lose the customized changes to quadrants in B5 Mod, such as Hyperspace systems, by just putting the FQM files in there. If you do not mind losing these, that will partially suffice. You will still need the population modifier settings from FQM, located in Settings.txt. These two files should be used as well. They contain many more formations and strategies than are in B5 Mod, as well as being designed to allow up to 101 ships to work in a formation, rather than the 27 or so that the limited files in B5 Mod allow (as they were designed for SE4 Classic (1.49), which did not allow up to 101 ships in a formation): DefaultStrategies.txt Formations.txt Note that Formations.txt is the file containing formation information for fleets. DefaultStrategies.txt provides many customized fleet strategies for the player to use. These are from Ultimate Strategies Mod. |

Okay, I will copy the pop mod settings and paste them into the B5 settings.txt. Quote:
