Opinion\'s
Recently I put together a set of 40 Star Trek race portraits using many of the BOTF pictues but also included many I got from various web sites. These include the Breen, Hirogen, Gorn, then I placed them on the same style of blue faded background as seen in BOTF. This set is on Atrocities web site. Has anyone seen or used these and what do you think of the new backgrounds? Personally I prefer the blue ones, gives the game a bit more color.
I have also started to re-work my Star Trek UFP set. I downloaded some actual interstellar pictures taken from various spacecraft and the Hubble telescope, then I cropped or sized them, pasted the ship picture onto it, then rendered it some to blend it into the background better. Only the portraits use these, the mini's still use all black. I have also tried to stick to the Star Trek theme as close as possible this time, my Last set had a few non-trek pictures. I added a few here for comment. Let me know what you all think. By the way, I have over a dozen new backgrounds I created, these are just a few. Thanks Sabre 21 |

Well, I have taken a look and they look great. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
I am not working on any new race so I am not using them personally, but I would encourage everybody who wants to make a Star Trek shipset to give them a try. I am using your first UFP shipset quite a lot (actually, all the time http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif). If you still have problems with background for mini-pictures (they are most noticable in nebulas) and have Photoshop, tell me. I will be more then happy to tell you how to handle it VERY easily. Btw. great work http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif. Keep it up. |
Re: Opinion\'s
Actually my own personal shipset that I use in games is based on the "best of" 4 or 5 UFP shipsets out there. Almost every pic and overhead shot has been brushed up, cleaned or modified. I will post it later this weekend in case anyone else is using the same ship/overhead shot and wants a cleaned-up Version.

Cleaning up the backgrounds on the mini's is the next the thing I'm gonna work on...almost done with all the portraits. And I have the adobe photo shop and hijack pro. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Sabre21 |
Re: Opinion\'s
Ok, it is simple enough.
The important thing about background is RGB colors. They HAVE to be 0,0,0 if you don't want them to be seen. It is an absolute rule because even if you have 0,0,1 the background will show. All you have to do is to fill your background with 0,0,0 RGB color (absolute black). It is easiest to do in Photoshop since it has a tool to do it very fast. These are the steps (skipping the obvious ones that include starting Photoshop, loading the picture, zooming in etc. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif): 1 - Set the color to RGB 0,0,0 in the Color window (usually mid right window on screen). 2 - Select Paint Bucket tool (Hotkey K). 3 - Select options in navigator window (usually upper right corner of screen) and set the tolerance to something between 10-15. You could set it as high as long as it doesn't start filling more then just black background (if you set it to something like 30 it usually fills part of the ship with black). The exact number depends on the picture, of course, so YOU will need to find the highest tolerance that doesn't mess your picture. The other options are as default (normal fill, 100% opacity). 4 - The final step. Just click on the background with the paint bucket. Don't forget to save after all is done http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif. You can check the background RGB color if you use the info menu in the navigator window (upper right). That is all http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif. It took me about 2 minutes to get through Solarion shipset and do this.
