Problems with new MOD(mephisto)
 
Ok, this is my problem. Possible bug(or my computers fritzy again http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon9.gif ). After 20 or so turns ( or much less sometimes) I get an 'access violation' with the se4.exe on the start of the Xi'Chung or the Sergetti turn. Yes this is the latest Version of the mod. Read in the various readme's that this problem had been fixed in a previous Version but I have to go into the game and surrender both players manually to someone else to get the game to continue. Also get the odd notice of 'cannot load designcreation.txt of Sergetti or Xi'Chung the odd time to.)
Has anyone else gotten these Messages??, other than this the mod has been great, loved the Narn and other shipsets. Hopefully this is just a problem that I can fix with just a re'install of the game or such.

I would suggest reinstalling, but can you post a savegame before resorting to such drastic measures so I can take a look.

Have you installed any other mods as well?

Here is the savgame, (I hope, first time uploading anything). As soon as the Xi"Chung turn comes (turn6) the access violation happens. As for mods to the game, the only other ones is adding a few races (United Colors empire etc) and modding the component enhancement to add 'light weapons mount'. to the selection. (game froze up b4 i added the extra mount mod too.)

Well, it worked fine for me even without having that weapon mount mod installed. I am posting you a save game that I made the following turn. I think it is time to reinstall. And be very careful when adding mods and custom races (add them one by one so that you know which one is causing problems).

Thanks for the help but I think my computer is fried. I am getting error Messages (the big blue screen http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon9.gif ) almost everytime I boot up windows (happening on and off this week) and kernl errors , access violation errors and just general crap. Probally have to do a full windows reinstall. Is there anyway for a game to 'break' windows?? I was not having this problem until I installed se4, checked computer for virus (none) and did all the diagnostics that came with the computer (passed them all) so it has to be the operating system(logically??). UGH.
Ah well, time to reinstall one Last time.

I would guess your Win is broken. Try re-installing it.
Another thing that might be broken is your RAM. I had this twice and it's very nasty as it is really the Last thing one things about.

Ok, just did a format of drive c:, reinstalled windows, (had to when whole system hung up and would not even boot in safe mode) and started from scratch. Now what I would like to know is this. What are peoples standards?? b4 I just downloaded every new race I could find and mixed and matched all the mods. (Probally why windows broke). What races does everyone like?? Is there such a thing as too much?? What mods does everyone like?? What do I need to get the best out of Se4?
Suggestions??

If a mod changes any file with "----- SOMETHING DATA FILE ----" at the top and provides AI to go with them you can't mix those AI with any other tech or component mods (without some strange stuff happenning). The AI may be fine but it won't use the new features.
A new AI race will have to be able to deal with any new / altered tech in its research and ship design files.

If a mod changes the files without ---DATA FILE --- at the top then you can use any or all of them. SystemTypes is an exception to this (I think)

I would recommend the Mephisto (?) MODpack at whatever the latest Version is. It's got good AI, fairly well balanced tech, Lots of playtesters....

The gold set races at universal shipyards are also generally very stable. Some are very challanging even though they are not tweaked for v1.27b, at least the one I downloaded aren't.
I don't know the exact web address but if you search in the mod section links have been posted there.
