I caught myself cheating
"Message from Host:
Machaka had an unexplainable increase of wealth this turn. This is probably caused by cheating." I'm shocked. Shocked and outraged. I had no idea I was cheating. I must have done it behind my back. I'm usually such an upstanding guy. I am going to inform the AI opponents of my actions. I will let them decide if I should be booted from the game. I'm also going to write myself a nasty email. So what should I do with myself? And what the hell happened? |
Re: I caught myself cheating
You should become a Flagellant. There is no other way to clear the blame from your person.
The Cheat detection is slightly overzealous from time to time; I believe it is caused by doing too much alchemy in a given turn. You could turn off the cheat protection for SP games, if you do not wish the AI to become too suspicious, and would rather not see this message. |

Shame on you! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
The game server gets the updated gem and gold inventory from the clients only, which do the calculation themeself. The server just checks whether the balance is reasonable, but it does not track alchemy and all this stuff accurately, hence sometimes the cheat protections is triggered falsely, although this is supposed to be reduced with the 2.14 patch. Notably using the item "AlchemistsStone" used to trigger the cheat protection, but I think this is supposed to be already fixed in 2.14. Are you using the newest patch? However, the bug-thread records some issues with blood-slaves and blood-sacrifices, so did you mess around with virgins lately? Shame on you again! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif So check the gem purses of your commanders and see whether someone does hold more gems or blood slaves than he should and post the circumstances to the bug thread in order to help finding the source of the bug... BTW, if you are playing alone, you can turn of cheat detection in the game creation menu, provided that you decided to trust yourself in the future now that you have been caught once... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif |
Re: I caught myself cheating
I'm okay with blood slaves so long as they are with my commanders. I think they're safer when they can run around unmolested. If I stick them in my pool, they start disappearing. I suspect one of my eunuch guards is responsible but haven't been able to catch anyone "with their pants down".
I am using patch 2.14. I recently built an Alchemist's Stone and Last turn used it to convert 20+ fire gems to gold. Sounds like that set off the cheat detection. I had better apologize to myself. I sent myself a nasty email, and am now delaying my turn in protest. I had no right to speak to myself that way. I'm glad I found out about that now. I just started a multiplayer game with a friend of mine (us against the big bad AI) and don't want to look like I'm cheating, evil guy that I am. |
