latern shield / corpse candle any good ?

Had my first battle with a latern shield (auto-casting corpse candle) and was very disappointed. Anyone used it sucessfull ?

Maybe it was a bug or just bad luck, but my very good equipped Succubus (wielding a latern shield) attacked an Tien-Chi priest. The priest summoned skeletons. The latern shield produced 2 green tears who attacked the skeletons. My Succubus stood around idle, doing nothing. After 50 turns, i lost the battle. I understand that the decay effect of the corpse candle is wasted against undead beings, but why was my Succubus doing nothing ? She had a blood thorn, amulet of luck, stone boots, cat charm, Sun Helmet and was not fatigued.

I would love to hear storys about sucessfull use of corpse-candle / latern shield. I searched the Boards and found nearly nothing. Any comments ?

the corpse candles are underpowered, and have been buffed up in zen's mod.

as to the succubus's behaviour, that sounds buggy. i've heard of similar. did she defend herself when attacked?

yeah, she stand left from the corpse candles, the skeletons stand right from the corpse candles. She was not attacked at all, because the skeletons never get past the corpse candles. However, i wonder why my Succubus did not fly over to kill the enemy priest. It looked like she was paralyzed by the corpse candles.

she wasn't scripted on "stay behind troops" was she?

if she was paralyzed there should have been an icon indicating so.
