OT: Looking For Information

Hey guys, sorry to ask here, but the chance of finding someone who might know the answer is greater.

I was over charged tonight for an item I bought at a supermarket. I cought this and asked for my money back. At one point I read about the State law that dictates that any first item of more than one, that is rang up at an incorrect price, is to be given to the customer at no charge. IE it be free. Well the stores PIC (Person In Charge) told me to produce the law or live with the partial refund. This angered me greatly and I therefore am determined to find this law and take it in to the store and staple it to that PIC's head with a nail gun.

I have tore apart the WA.gov site, the Wa.gov AGO site, and googled up a storm to no avail. I know the law exists however I just cannot figure out where to find it.

IF any of you are any good at hunting down elusive things, I would greatly appreciate your help. Who knows, it might even prove to be helpful to you some day.

And the sad thing was, it was only a thing of cheese, but since they were so rude to me, I figure its the least I can do to prove them wrong. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

I've heard that some stores have that as a policy, but I don't know if there's a law.

I always thought that was how it worked but I got yelled at by my supervisor whenever I would try to do it. It just seems like common courtesy to me. Oh well, people suck. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Well Good Luck Atrocities! Just don't go to hard on the guy, I imagine it's happened before in the shop and it's his employers causing the trouble, dam faceless corporations are behind everything these days.

You need Something therapeutic as well http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Might I suggest being a mercenary for hire? Tagon's Toughs recently lost a commander, I'm sure you'll feel much better after some gratuitous BLAM http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Its not really a rant, its just me looking for information so that I can prove to the store PIC that I was right and she was wrong. Its all about right kicking the crap out of wrongs rude arse. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

I also know a guy who worked for the Big Red "S" (a kroger company) who was fired after 29 years of service for giving a customer the product, in this case a can of split pee soup, when it rang up at the wrong price. Note that it was the policy of the company to do so when a product rang up wrong. However since he was so close to retiring they used it to fire him. He was fired by a young 20 something punk arse store supervisor who was on the fast track. It came out that he was told to "get rid of" Kyle by the Division Manager. In fact all store managers were told to do this to any emplyee that was close to retirement age. Kyle sued and so did the Meat Cutter who was also fired for missing a scheduled day to work do to the fact that his schedule was changed on his day off and he was not notified.

I know Kyle won a settlement, or resolution as he called it, but the meat cutter did not settle and wanted to go to court. I don't know how Johns case turned out.

But this was how the Big Red "S" did things in the late 80's and early 90's.

I can tell you horor stories for hours on the things that I know. When your dealing with profit measured in cents on the dollar, nasty things are planned and those who do not do as they are told find themselves out on the street or demoted back to some demeaning job like meat department clean up. Not a nice company to work for.

I know here in Canada when an item is scanned and rings up at the wrong price, you may be entitled to get the item free, up to $10. It's called the Scanning Code of Practice, but it is a voluntary code and only some retailers do it.

Never heard of such a law; just as a policy at one or two stores, Wal*Mart maybe?

You should really get a fish tank, I have one and it does wonders! Hell I am back here posting aren’t I?

Re: OT: Looking For Information

I heard of this policy decades ago, when scanners were new, and people were suspicious. Like many people have already said, I don't think it was a law. It always struck me as something to placate technophobics, and having watched too much Star Treck, don't include myself in that group.

BS like this can happen. Back in my high school days, when I worked at the supermarket(this was just as scanners were arriving), the office lady had to enter codes from printouts by hand, and mistakes do happen.

My solution is to never buy more than a handfull of items at a time, so I can better see what's happening. That policy works well if you're a bachelor, or European. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

And I also like to use the self-serve scanners. People hate them , tending to complain about the loss of human contact. I'm not so lacking in human contact that I have to make chitchat with the lady at the register. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif
