Why not use one of Gandalfs random maps for a MP

Game? It seems the same maps are used again and again. One thing I enjoy about the random maps is the diverse sites you can find in them.

Of course "random" often means "horrifically unbalanced" which is why I expect they are not used so much in MP.

People like maps where they know roughly what to expect http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

The random maps sure are cool though! Maybe I will run an MP game on one just for fun.

It would also be alot of fun if it were possible to be randomly assigned a nation also. Would make for some very interesting games.

If you want it INTERESTING I can run one of the seeding programs to scatter castles, labs, temples, extra commanders and troops with magic equipment. Nothing more "interesting" than coming up against a province that has a Monolith being guarded by 5 Red Dragons. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Just kidding. Personally I think the bugs are pretty well out of the scripts so that there arent too many imbalances in the maps that are generated. Some of the provinces are pretty strangely shaped so I could stand to tweak some settings but I play them alot with no problems.

Are any of your random maps wraparound?

Afraid not. You could do that if you wanted to.
We tried to iron out the coding but couldnt get it to quite work. There were two methods.

A) look for some tiling code that would smudge the edges to make them exact matches, then try to fix the borders and neighbors

B) Cut-n-paste the map to a new Version. Its like... you cut it up the middle and switch the two pieces. That makes the two out edges match. Now the center line would be easier to fix in a paint program. Then switch the sides BACK. If no provinces were added and minimal fixing done then the original .map file should still work. Do the same for top/bottom if you want a 4-way wrap (although I prefer neighboring all the top to each other and all the bottom to each other for a "globe" effect)
