OT: Windows Question

Hey Guys, yet another minning expedition of this great knowledge base.

My system was running slow so I check and found that only two programs, realscheld.exe and wisptis.exe were running.

Now I know what real is, and have disabled it, but when I did a search for wisptis.exe it came up as a tablem function for windows. I checked and it is in the proper location, I think,
windows/system32/system32/wisptis.exe

My quesion is, if it is for a table PC, and I do not have one, what would cause this to start up?

Also I have noticed that my PC, when put into hibernation, restarts itself after a time. WTF is up with that? Any suggestions or comments?

I did a full system scan for viruses and other and according to the checks my system is clean.

According to some googled site it's called "Windows Ink Services Platform Tablet Input Subsystem", and this proccess is automaticaly installed together with MS Office 2003 or Adobe Acrobat 6. These apps will ask to reinstall it if you'll delete it. Probably you have to live with this crap running on background (although it has a memory leak).

Thank Aiken, I do have both of those programs on my system. I will just have to disable them from start up. Thanks.

What anti-virus are you running? You may have already thought about this one but I am running McAfee, anyway I did the latest update and the “scan-on demand” function went into overdrive which killed my system. I ended up having to disable the feature and “poof” my computer is running at full speed again.

It might be a WOL (Wake On LAN) thing. Do you have any services running that other CPU's might be trying to access? Web or FTP services? Are you hosting / proxying an I-net connection for other PC's? Do you have any scheduled tasks like a backup?

Just a quick guess or two...

Hey PES and rdouglass, long time no post guys. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Glad to see you both posting again. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I ran Nortan, Panda Soft, and one other recommended AV. I ran spy bot, pest patrol, and one other. They all came up clean. To be safe I also ran Stinger. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I think its just as Aiken and rdouglass said, another program is using it in the back ground. Or that my system had an auto update or something that a program wanted to run at a pre-scheduled time.
