My Hovercraft is Full of Eels
I just noticed that on the back cover of the official manual the tantalizing sentence can be found:
"Putting the sword to your enemies is similar to a good wargame." In case this is not intentional: If anyone at Illwinter needs a texter or a proofer for your cover before you print, feel free to contact me! |
Re: My Hovercraft is Full of Eels
A peculiar sentence, and easy to misread, but I think it means to say that the combat system is like a good wargame. As opposed to some strategy games, where the combat system is unrealistic or uninteresting.

That particular piece of engrish is not illwinters fault, the back cover was designed by shrapnel. I imagine it was just an editing oversight.

Re: My Hovercraft is Full of Eels
http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif I must admit that I fail to understand what is so weird about this sentence. "putting the sword to" translates to me to something between "killing" and "attacking" (leaning towards killing), am I wrong here? I also understood "wargame" in the sense of "tabletop"-wargame instead of strategical computer wargames (I'd aslo call Dom2 a "wargame", but this would make no sense here).

Re: My Hovercraft is Full of Eels
Hehe. Yes, putting the sword to your enemies is to kill them. What's funny about it though, is that it implies that Dominions is about putting the sword to your enemies, and this pleasure is similar to a good wargame. Its like saying that piloting an F-16 is similar to using Microsoft Flight Simulator - its backwards. It also makes perfect sense to think of Dom2 as a wargame, so if you read "putting the sword to your enemies" in context as "playing Dom2" then playing a wargame is similar to playing a wargame. Any way you look at it, PvK's judgement stands: its a peculiar sentence, and worth a chuckle or two http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: My Hovercraft is Full of Eels
To me, that sentence is an enigma, wrapped in a contradiction, at the heart of a paradox...
