Compile the best Mods
I was wondering if someone would collect the best of the mods out there into one file for download?
These mods would include extra races, extra system names, sound files, AI fixes & improvements, etc. These mods would NOT include new technologies, changes to unit values & abilities, etc. This Master_Mod_File should be a self-extracting file that only needs to be executed to be installed (like Mephisto's). Of course, that means that the Mod Squad would have to work together to maintain the Master_Mod_file http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif ------------------ Spyder, Chairman of the Arachnid Consortium |
Re: Compile the best Mods
The mod pack posted in the downloads section is a compilation of several mods. You have Mephisto's included and custom races by several others...(Tampa Gamer and Daynarr, I believe). This is generally accepted as the best collection of mods available.

Re: Compile the best Mods
Yep, I have that one and its a good one. If it were maintained and other good mods were added to it, it could become the Master_Mod_File. The 400+ system names in that mod would be a good addition, along with Tampa_gamer's sound mods.
Maybe MM would do it? Give those mods their stamp of approval by including them in the APPROVED Master_Mod_File....? It'd definitely spur the modding community to produce more cool stuff http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif ------------------ Spyder, Chairman of the Arachnid Consortium [This message has been edited by Spyder (edited 05 March 2001).] |
Re: Compile the best Mods
The TDM Mod Pack was designed to do just that. In the early days (i.e. November/December) we all had separate mods and decided that combining them into one easily installed Mod would serve people better. The TDM Mod Pack is very focused in that we do not have new techs/components/etc. We do this on purpose so that everyone can use and tweak this to suit their own "data mods". Another reason was because Aaron is so committed to providing updates and enhancing the base product, that we did not want to constantly have to update for AI changes as well as component/research changes. As for other additions to our TDM Mod Pack, we are open to suggestions - we are looking for things that will enhance the AI uniformly (all types of games) from enhanced AI races to files like Daynarr's Planet_Types which enhances the AI selection of planets. Unfortantely, we like to test how everything works together, a lot, so we may not always have all of the "latest mods" included in our Mod Pack. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to let you know where we were coming from [Daynarr - Mephisto please feel free to add to this].

Re: Compile the best Mods
Just like Tampa said. Also, MM is ALREADY adding some mods into official patches and I believe, once they are done with bug squishing, that they will be more focused on adding more features and supporting some great mods.

Tampa...that's cool http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif you guys do a great job. I did not realize that you guys had already done what I had suggested, and, I think that its great that you have http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
Daynarr...I remember when I had first started reading this board, everyone was congratulating Mephisto on getting his mod(s) included in the patch...very cool http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif ------------------ Spyder, Chairman of the Arachnid Consortium |
