Anti-Treason Satellites!

OK, so I was in a PBW game and I had some missile satellites set up to defend one of my planets... Well Dinesku's fleet (more like an escort and a troop transport http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif) comes along to conquer the planet. Finding no WP's, the transport immediately rushes for the planet. My satellites then launch their missiles (about 60 of them!) launch missiles at the transport, but the transport makes it to the surface in time and drops troops, and then is promptly destroyed by the missiles.

Well, then came the part I DIDN'T expect... On the next turn, the satellites launched missiles again - I thought they were launching at the escort, which was still closing, but instead the missiles zoomed toward the planet and wiped out the colony that Dinesku's transport had just captured!!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Who ever knew that watching combat replays could be so much fun! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

(Incidentally, the colony had no population on it, as Spoo's intel attacks had depleted it of population http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif)

How did he get the troopship to attack the empty colony? There's a bug causing troopships to ignore zero-pop colonies in simultaneous turn games. Or did that get fixed with 1.91 and I didn't notice.

No, the troopship definitely went for the colony - I checked it twice. The planet did lack the colony indicator on it, though, since it was wiped out... heck, I've seen Devnull monsters attack a planet, hide in the corner, and destroy the planet, and the combat replay shows both the asteroids and the planet http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Re: Anti-Treason Satellites!

I had a satellite defending a planet from capture by an entire fleet once. The satellite was on the wrong side of the planet to defend it from capture, but then the troop transport headed away to the corner behind the satellite, and got destroyed by the satellite.

Since the attacking player had been giving orders to pick up troops and proceed to the next colony, he ended up unintentionally glassing colonies he would otherwise have captured.

That would be bad. Capturing colonies is essential to keep the war machine going. Its like a domino effect http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

yeah, I've seen that before. It's sort of as cool as seeing the enemy alleigance subvert your ships, and then your unsubverted ships bLast their former comrades...

Also use caution capturing a planet with moons, as one colony will fire at another in close proximity.
