Uh oh. GalCiv 2: Dread Lords looks pretty good.

Check it out.

Customizable races and ship designs; random planets; smooth empire borders... This is gonna be a big hit against Aaron...

Now I cannot speak for the other moderators, but I guess if it were up to me, we could view this post on its face value, that being a news advisory, but in the same sense the moderator in me is more than a little bit irked by it.

So I guess the best course would be to say thanks for the info, http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif but in the future, please refrain from making these kinds of advertising posts.

Thanks http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Yes I agree, this game will be giving SE V a run for its money. Lets just hope that the differances between the two are great engouh as to allow for excellent sales for both wihtout conflict. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Right now the team still has a bit of work ahead of them to get the game ready for release. As of now they're hoping to get it out by the end of the year but they're not making any hard promises. With the total absence of other games in this genre and setting, they can be sure they'll have a devoted audience whenever the game is released. The game will likely have an open beta sometime in March. We'll be sure to bring you news of that when it's officially announced.

BLASPHEMY !
I'll go smack em upuside down goddamnit (excuse the swearing)

MM better get some marketing done, because if the ppls dont even know the game exists they aint gonna buy it.

I bet I will end up playing both GalCiv 2 and SE5. GalCiv has no tactical combat and is more strategy/diplomacy oriented.
SE4 is more tactical/combat oriented (not that it lacks strategy or diplomacy though http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
GalCiv has NO multiplayer other then scoring submissions (metaverse) while SEIV has upper hand here.
Judging from previews their successors (GalCiv 2 and SE5) will have same attributes.
So, in a nutshell, both games can be played at the same time, as they don't offer same kind of experience.

At this point nothing besides you guys slamming SE:V when it comes out would stop me from buying it. I dont think any game can compete vs SE when it comes to the fans that post here.

How many people ever only buy one game? Very few I would think. If I know Aaron he is probably hoping GalCiv2 does very very well. Because a big publisher like that can generate a lot more press, and pull a lot of new players into the 4X gaming market. And the more people in the 4X gaming market, the more people will end up buying SE5.

A rising tide raises all boats guys.

It looks pretty and all but it won't stop me from buying SEV.

One big point made in the article: No multi-player, maybe added in a future expansion. For all it's glitz if it can't do any type of multi-player then SEV will beat it hands down.

The article also caused me to ask a question, will it be moddable? If not then I don't want it. If I have to jump through hoops or wait for specialized software to mod it, I don't want it.

Will the software designers be as open to the community as Aaron is with us? I doubt it.

Actually, answer to both questions is yes.
Designers of GalCiv2 promised to release tools they use to public as well.
And they are open to community; actually they post in public forums on daily basis.

But they are still not real competition. Like Geo said, one game will benefit from success of another.

so Atrocities are we not allowed to mention other games any more ?

We do it all the time.

P.S. I have GC1 and I did not like it. Hopefully this one is playable.... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif But I collect Space Games..

Kana If I do not like SEV I will post it where appropriate... But I will not beat everyone down about it day in and day out. Like some people did with SEIII and SEIV. Don't like it move on. Its only a game. But I think I will like it as well. Liked 3 and 4 so.... Lets hope it continues...
