Little question about Defense rating
This has been bugging me more while trying to figure out optimal results for modding:
A unit will have a "basic" defense stat. This can be changed in-game by any number of effects. Most notably: Armor, Weapons, experience, wounds, and various spell effects. But this rarely adds up correctly, even in the "recruitment" screen, where no experience or spell effects can factor in. Example: A standard, unmodded Van has in the Recruitment screen (thus before he can have any experience or effects cast upon him) a defense value of 18; his "basic" value is 14, and his items yields a net defense bonus of +1 (+2 for shield, -1 for cuirass). Thus he has 3 more defense points than is justified. This phenomenon can be observed with many units (so it is not just anything wacky with Glamour). Any canonical justifications? |
Re: Little question about Defense rating
Glamour certaincly affects Defense, and weapons/armor/experience as well, as you said. With which other units have you noticed this?

Re: Little question about Defense rating
It seems you get +3 defense for riding a horse. For the valkyrie the stats add up correctly.

Re: Little question about Defense rating
Ah, of course. Mounted units don't get defence penalties or encumberance from armor. Glamour does have an effect, but it might only be visible in a battle or something...
Do you have any examples of non-mounted units whose defence doesn't add up correctly? |
Re: Little question about Defense rating
Thanks Turin, that is it: it was with all mounted units... well I'm stupid -- thanks!

Re: Little question about Defense rating
Mounted units get +3. In dom1 it was no encumbrance instead, but that made light cav even whimpier, so now every mounted gets +3 and have their armor defense subtraction added.
