Quick, Aaron! Talk to Gamespy!

C'mon Malfador! Let's see if you can get an interview with Gamespy as well and show that SE5 is going to be far better than GC2! Some nice screenshots wouldn't hurt too! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

heh. Looks like they're 'big combat feature' is stuff that SE has had since SE2. Only less detailed. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Not surprising given that they're going for a more abstract scale, but its kind of insulting the way they play it off as an innovation. "The standard 4x game" has with a few exceptions always had more detail than attack and defense ratings..

SE5 could own that game, we have to do something to get SE5 more attention.

I just finished the article and all of the great new features the game has SE4 already has except the 3d engine and the advanced political system. But SE5 is going to have both of those and even more.

Only 4 planets around each star http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif sad

It also doesn't look very easy to mod for it

I didn't see any mention of ground combat

Well folks there is a thing called feedback. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Click on the authors name and it will take you to Gamespy's feedback page. If we want to get SEIV & SEV some attention this is the way to do it. Just remember, be polite and don't rant, we don't want to come off as a bunch of rabid fanboys! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

The question isn't whether SE5 can beat it...
The question is whether it can beat SE4. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

All right then, I'll post something:

Nice interview on GalCiv2 - the idea of ships' appearance actually representing their sytems loadout is exciting... but the one thing that interview makes me want to do is suggest that you also interview Malfador Machinations, creators of the also upcoming indie 4X game Space Empires V! Why don't you send an email to se5@malfador.com and try to set up an interview - I as well as numerous other SE fans would greatly appreciate this, and it would bring to the forefront another sadly underpublicized series in a sadly underpublicized genre!
Thanks!

GalCiv has always had AI as its #1 feature. But it made me get bored with the game quickly for lack of other features

Googling for Aaron interview and Space Empires V comes up pretty short. I know SEIV has been out awhile but there is a huge difference

What do you expect? Gamespy sucks. The whole gaming-review industry sucks. Why? Because it's not the best games that get the good reviews, it's the ones that paid for them.

Re: Quick, Aaron! Talk to Gamespy!

thats not entirely true. i agree that review scores are to some extent bought, but i believe it has more to do with laziness on reviewers part- noone bothers to play a game for 40 hours before writing a review on it; it's easier to play for 5 or 10 hours. On top of this, the publisher PR department will undoubtedly send a list of highlights, etc. of the game, and the reviewer will be keeping these in mind while he or she writes the review.

A good example is Battle for Middle Earth. Which, while a decent game visually and with excellent voice work, is utterly lacking in balancing and long term play value.
