Gifting ships bug, or am I just crazy?

Has anyone ever had this happen:

I gift a bunch of ships to another empire. They get a bunch of ships, but TOTALLY different ones (all over my darned empire, as well. real annoying). The ships weren't even of the same classes or names or anything at all similar to the ones I gifted. Unless I was completely drunk out of my mind when I did the turn, there is no concievable way I would have gifted the ships I did. Anyone else experience this?

Thanks,

Alarik

You are crazy, admit it. It won't be so bad once you get used to it really.

There *is* a bug with gifting ships: if some of the gifted ships are destroyed before the gift takes place, they will be replaced by other random vessels. It may also happen with mothballed ships, and perhaps under other circumstances as well (ships with the same name may create problems, though I think it went fine in the Proportions #1 game).

I never knew this. I recommend adding this to the "known bugs" thread.

If I'm crazy, then you made me that way.

I don't think any of the ships got destroyed, or were otherwise altered in state, except I probably did give them orders....

In any case, I can correct the problem. It's good to know that it may not be my unstable mental state.

Thanks,

Alarik

It could be another problem too, but I think the root would be the same: *something* interfered with your gift, and wrong ships were gifted. Or another incarnation of the infamous message bug.

Orders should not affect gifts: any order for the turn where the recipient accepts the gift is discarded, so it should not have mattered. As usual, *shouldn't* and *didn't* are quite different though.

Infamous message bug?

In simultaneous games, if you send a diplomatic message, and then do anything else, the message is lost and never received. To avoid this, you have to always do diplomacy last.

... Oh.

If you are lucky, the messages will go through just fine, and the gifts will disappear in the middle of nowhere. You can accept a gift, and the other side can receive your message, without anything happening. If you are not so lucky, the message will plainly disappear, and you will be blamed by the other party for "not sending messages". http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
