More Hits from earlier. I have more between them, but they are all port scans.

Re: OT: Guys I need Some Help
it looks like a port scan *shrug*
what i would do is mail this picture to a contact address at ThePlanet.com, they'll look into it. Their contacts page. |
Re: OT: Guys I need Some Help
Thanks, I have done so. Its is extremely odd that this started about the time that I was prevented from logging onto this forum. After the last hit, I was able to log back onto the forum. To be honest in 7 years I have never seen so many hits from one source. Very odd.

Re: OT: Guys I need Some Help
How long have you had the firewall installed? The IP in question is the IP for the board. I noticed it stated that you had that IP in your ban list. My guess is somehow www.shrapnelcommunity.com was banned in your mcafee setup, so when you tried to connect the next time it tried a different port number than 80 to connect to our site, and then our site tried to acknowledge the IP request on that same port number which looks like an inbound hack attempt. Were you trying to access the site at the same time?
I did a quick check and we have nothing that would do a port scan on the server. I also have port monitoring software on my router upstairs and I have no trace of active scans from the server. Anything else happen wierd right before this? |
Re: OT: Guys I need Some Help
Yes, I was trying to access the site at the very same time. I emailed the abuse@ for that Planet address. Sorry. At the time I had no idea it was related to this site. I will email and say we figured it out. Hopefully they won't cause issues.
I was playing Farcry at the time that this started. Single player that is. The IP was not in the McAfee ban list, but showed up as banned. I noted that too. The Firewall is the one that came with the PC, in addition to the Windows one. To be honest, I never really ever looked at it before with the exception of a small question a while back. The only thing that I can think of is for some odd ball reason the FW locked the port and things went down exactly as you suggested. Very odd. I am very sorry about this Richard. Whatever caused this seems to be cleared up now. |
