(Way OT) WOOOOT DOOM THE MOVIE!

That's right, The Rock is starring in DOOM the movie! Replete WITH the BFG (Big'uh Freakin GUN) or officially "Bio-Force Gun"

Now question is, which doom is it gonna be based on? 1, 2 or 3?

Sorry I don't have links or trailers because I just now heard it while watching TV from the Rock himself http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Anywhoo your thoughts on this?

Well, at least in this case they have an excuse for plotless violence. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

there was some /. coverage of this last year. from what i remember, it will be based loosely on doom 3. but it might feel more like system shock 2, as the monsters are not from hell but the product of a genetic engineering lab gone awry.

*shrug*

From what I can tell, its not going to be Doom like at all.
Instead of demons from hell, its mutants from a virus.
Instead of lone marine, its a swat team.
Gee, its Resident Evil, the movie!

Original DOOM, not the new one as it sucked horribly.

hmmm..
seems the Rock is trying to get into as many movies as he can these days.
Hopefully BeCool will be better than his earlier attempts at movies. (ie. Scorpion King)

Scorpian King wasn't all that bad, granted it wasn't what they made it out to be, and I wouldn't have wanted to pay to see it (which I didn't) but uhm, well I'm really not making a case for it here am I?

Anyway he's a pretty good actor, and everyone gets those crappy movies that they're in so I won't judge anyone by their past works unless it's Kevin Cosner (SP?) who really needs to learn to end his movies 3.2 hours earlier then he does, oh yeah, and actually throw in some good acting/plot you know yadda yadda.

I think the Rock is the replacement for Arnold Schwarzenegger. Eventually the Rock will get to old and they will replace him with a new bodybuilder/Wrestler.

Ah, so now we know who the next Terminator is. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

As far as a Doom movie, it can't be better than Resident Evil (either of them). That means, at best, I'll laugh at some of the insanely stupid stuff in the movie; at worst, I'll want to claw my eyes out and chew off an arm, in the hopes it will get me out of the theatre. I just don't see any way to make this a really good movie. And, when you think about it, has there EVER been a videogame -> film adaptation that has been GOOD? All that I've seen range from very sub-par to outright horrible...

I think that most people on the forum would agree that "Super Mario Brothers" and "Street Fighter" were probably overlooked in their respective years by the Oscars.

Seriously, videogame - movie conversions are an attempt to strike while the iron is hot and cash in on a successful series (book, game, toy). Hey, if I could, I would too. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
