OT: I do dislike stupid people
[RANT]
Some people are just plain stupid! Case in point. Ebert and Roper reviewed Sahara, a movie based, loosely, on the book by Clive Cussler with the same name. They dis the movie and make jokes about how bad it was and how horrible the plot is and how sahara 2 could be even worse. Although Ebert gave it a thumbs up, that jack booted retard, Roper, proved how stupid he really is as I do believe that neither he, or Ebert, knew that the movie was based on a Best Selling novel. Calling the movie stupid, perposturous, and so on just incensed me beyond words. It would be like some jack *** on a game review show on G4 TV, saying Space Empires IV was the worst game he had ever played.... like he ever played any other 4x game in his life. If you don't know the history behind the movie, becareful about what you say, it might not be a good movie, but it was a damn good book. It just goes to show how ignorate some people are when it comes to spending too much time watching and not enough time reading. I like Ebert, but that Roper guy can go back to writing crappy reviews for a nothing news paper for all I care. I guess I would not be so mad about it if they had just shown some awareness that the movie, albeit not a very good movie, was based on a best selling book by clive custler.. HELL they even made jokes about Dirk Pitts name..... and how the movie took on a James Bond feel..... and a Indiana Jones perposterous story. Well no F'ing duh you dumb asses! That is what the novels are, a cross between indiana jones, jock custo (sp), and 007. GO READ THE BOOK SERIES YOU RETARDS! I wish I could email this to them and educate them that they are such morons, but hey I cannot, or at least I have not found a way too yet... They spat upon the Dirk Pitt novles, and clive cussler books and that just PMO to no end. [/RANT] In my own defense, I wrote this thing being very tired, burned out, and a bit PO at what they said. So if the gramer and spelling is bad, well so was what they said. (Not about the movie, but what they said about the story and how they made fun of it.) |
Re: OT: I do dislike stupid people
I hate to bring this up, but it always comes up inevitably...
So, AT... You just LOVED Starship Troopers, right? A book can be excellent, top notch, worth reading five times over, lets-nominate-the-author-for-the-Nobel-Prize good ... ... and the cinema adaptation can be bad. (To draw from DNA) And not just bad, but jaw-droppingly bad. Bad on a big scale. Bad on a small scale. Bad when served with a side of toast. And in general, just reek of elephant excrement. Anyway, the two of them are only paid to review movies. There isn't a need for them to go into the origins of the story, etc., only how they percieve what they see on the screen. That's what people what movie reviewers to do, only to say whether it is worth seeing a particular movie, or not. --edit: stupid UBB code... |
Re: OT: I do dislike stupid people
Starship Troopers was a good use of an "R" rating. Too bad they don't do that any more. It had astonishingly violent counterpoint (as in Holy Sh*t, that had to hurt!). Naked sex just as natural as you please. And a story that actually managed to do better than that deadbeat hero rides off into the sunset alone bull. But still it somehow dragged on and on, and I got bored waiting for the damn thing to move forward.
Starship Troopers-2? Yechh. Obviously someone made a quick buck selling the property rights to a knock-off company. The end product barely qualified for a film. |
Re: OT: I do dislike stupid people
LOL Now if only Denise Richards had been on Rico instead of Dizzy http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif I'd a been a happy horny 14 year old muahahaha.
Anyway though seriously I liked Starship Troopers it was "fun" without much need to go "Oooh that's a huge plot twist" it was the kind of movie to watch when you just want to watch "sh## blow up" in large quantities and see a bunch of wet lovely naked women hehe. I even have it on tape to boot. Starship Troopers 2.......I haven't seen it but I've seen preview scenes and I must say "How is humanity suddenly losing in this version!?!" And where did they get a Vietnam style feel to it when the maker of the first movie specifically was trying for a WWII style feel....I mean crap whoever wrote the script for STT2 wasn't thinking "LOOK AT THE BLOODY UNIFORMS!" they are Nazi Ripoffs and the Women's uniform isn't even redone that much LOL it's an off the rack nazi women's uniform with the "Citizen Fed Eagle" instead of the "Imperial German Eagle" woohoo! And oh yeah Robert Heinlan was making a point with his book as well, though I've heard too many arguments as to what that point was (anyone care to shed any light upon it for me) and from what I understand at least somewhat the maker of the 1st movie stuck to it while the maker of the 2nd movie blew i streight out his posterier with a grin. P.S. The book rocks! now if only I can find the sequal "Combat Command" I'd be happier http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |

If I were playing PBW right now in My empire any mention of said film would result in that sytem being star-nuked. Allows the film to die in a horrible, twisted way as the Shrapnel Forum goers once again vent about that film... |
Re: OT: I do dislike stupid people
Hey! I went to see Sahara this weekend, I liked it. But then again I was not expecting it to be filled with 'Best Dramatic Actor" performances. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
What I like about these types of movies is that they are FUN! It's not trying to teach me a life lesson, or educate me on some moral issue, it's just a Fun ride. I leave the theater relaxed and refreshed because I was not weighted down by deep plots and 'serious' issues. And for the books-to-movie transition thing, I saw and loved the first 'Dune' movie, but when I saw the movie I had not read the books. But you know what? I read the book and was amazed at how much of the book got into the movie. And get this I still like the movie version of Dune the best. I have friends that have a (shall we say) 'Totally Opposite' position on the movie.. They Hate it. And what's worse, they LOVE the Dune Mini-Series that came out a few years back.. I did not like the mini-series I found the sets and characters to be too 'clean' and did not have the same 'lived-in' feel of the Movie. The mini-series might have been 'true to the written word' of the book, but I think the Movie did a better job of capturing the 'heart' and 'feeling' of the book. So what does all this mean? It means I Liked Sahara, now I might have to go find the books, it sounds like they would be worth reading. Nuf Said, Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: OT: I do dislike stupid people
First Baron tempts David Gervais into playing Privateer Remake, now Atrocities talks David Gervais into reading a novel. At this rate, SEV will never be finished!

Re: OT: I do dislike stupid people
Aaargh! If there isn't a law against mentioning Starshi* Troopers in this forum, there should be!

Re: OT: I do dislike stupid people
I have consistently found that the reviews by those 2 clods are about exactly opposite from what I like. So if I ever catch one of their reviews, I just reverse their verdict. Haven't been disappointed by that method yet.

Re: OT: I do dislike stupid people
Woh, wait a minute.
There's a sequal to *STARSHIP TROOPERS* (the book)?!?!?! Whats that name again? Gotta drop by the local library ten minutes ago! edit: Drat, not in the library system. That sucks. |
