Why in the world.....

...am I a mega-evil empire when I have routinely given stuff away, put NO ships in ANYONE's airspace, accepted all treaties, broken none, and basically been just a good guy developing his (about a dozen or so) systems?

They should volunteer to join me rather than declare war on me! http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

I haven't even met but 5 of the 13 races (I had one surrender to me) and each time I met a new race, it hated me right away http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon9.gif

It just doesn't seem equitable....I'll win, but, it just doesn't seem like I should have to conquer a civilization who was my closest ally during my early years.

Re: Why in the world.....

Build a load of cruisers with cargo and supply components, bridge, crew + life support, a low tech engine or 2. An equal number of ships to your current fleet tonnage. Give them to your ex ally.
Then you are no longer Mega Evil Empire (just mega devious....)
The ex ally will probably scrap the lot quite fast (assuming they accept the gift at all), so you're going to have to cut back on the number of ships / bases you have. Reducing the number of units in storage could help if you like to stockpile.

Well, the funny thing is that I met the first two empires and established trade with them. Did all treaties except allied with them. Never built a warship. Just colonized & developed. After awhile, they declared war on me! I didn't have a warship to my name when they declared war! It seems like they should have been honored to be in my presence http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif They HAD to be scoring mega research & resources on the trade treaty...

You said:

>After awhile, they declared war on me! I >didn't have a warship to my name when they >declared war!

Well, looks reasonable... In my view, the AI races (maybe, except the peaceful ones), should not have true reasons to attack you. They should fight for simple expansion and supremacy.

Set that flag for 'Mega-Evil Empire' in settings.txt to False. It should help.

"What do -you- want?" "I'd like to live -just- long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I would look up into your lifeless eyes and wave like this..." *waggle* "...can you and your associates arrange that for me, Mr. Morden?"

Well, I don't want to cheat http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif ...it just seems that if I'm a nice guy, they should treat me as a nice guy...no matter how big I get, unless their mentality type is contradictory to that. Oh, well... http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Why in the world.....

Personally I reset the Mega-Evil threshold since I moded the settings file for a galaxy twice as big as default. Otherwise it triggers way too early. Even if you haven't changed the default number of stars if you play in a large galaxy, the threshold might be too low, but that's just personal opinion. You can also reset the point ratio if you want.

Now, that makes sense....I raised the system number to 250. I'll look at it. What file is it in?
