OT: Strange Question About Credit Cards

Hi folks. I've been having a wee bit of difficulty with the ole credit card, since Amazon keeps telling me it's declined, while my bank keeps telling me it's absolutely fine and that the transactions should be going through. Does anyone know of some way (website?) of testing the card that doesn't involve spending any money? Or failing that a website that might offer cheap items of general interest?

Can you pre-order SE5 with a credit card? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

No site. The problem happens with some on line retailers. Most likely its just a glitch on Amazons end. Use a differant card or re-enter your info and try again.

In most cases its a error with the info. Good luck.

it might be a problem like I have.. My card has all three of my names "David Elmer Gervais" and if I follow the instructions and enter the 'full' name as shown on the card it does not work. I have to use David Gervais, David Elmer, or Elmer Gervais. Wierd eh?

It seems that most if not all cc forms on the net get have a restriction of 2 names first/last that causes this problem.

I hope this helps, but it probably won't.

Cheers!

Possibly you could get a hotel room on the web, then cancel it the next day. That should test your card. and not accually buy anything. I worked at an Online store for a while doing their web stuff. There was an application that connected to the creditcard companies that would test for approval or not. Then another action would be done to charge the card.

Dear me, I appear to be a muppet. :-p Just realized I work in an airline ticketing department, which means I can request an authorization to charge money, and if it goes through I'll just ring up and cancel the auth. Silly me.
