length of weapons
how important is length of sword or another weapon? lenght=4 (spear) is better that lenght=1 (short sword) ?
why? |
Re: length of weapons
I Think it has something to do with reppling. Like a spear since it is longer can make a counter attack on a short sword, it ties in with morale aswell some how.

Re: length of weapons
If your weapon is longer than your enemy's weapon, you can repel them when they attack, which deflects it and deals 1 damage to them, if I remember right. I think it has something to do with your attack skill and morale compared to your enemy's defense skill.

Re: length of weapons
Alice is attacking Bob. If all of Alice's weapons are shorter then any one of Bob's weapons then Bob makes an attack roll (presumably only with his longest weapon, no idea if weapons with multiple attacks get them, anybody know?). If the roll hits then: 1) Bob makes a normal damage roll. Damage is capped at 1 with no triggered effects. 2) Alice must make a morale check. If she fails then her attack(s) are aborted.
I'd guess aborted attacks don't count for experience purposes. I really doubt repels do. P.S. I just checked Liga & Sunraybe's sites without finding this. Is it in one of the FAQs? |
Re: length of weapons
If you want to see EXACTLY how repels will affect combat between two units, try fighting them in the Combat Simulator (see my website). It generates statistics on repels during a fight.

Repels, as I understand them (there might be an error here, since it's a confusing process, but I doubt it): A (holding a Shortsword) attacks B (holding a Spear): 1) Because Spear is longer than Shorstsowrd, B rolls Attack versus A's Defense. 2a) If B wins the roll, A rolls a morale save versus 10. 3aa) If A loses the roll, A does not attack. Repel success; end. 3ab) If A wins the roll, B rolls for damage against A's protection, and deals damage capped at 1 (with no special effects like poison). 2b) If B loses the roll, there is no repel. 3b) (nothing happens here) 4) Assuming A was not repelled, and A is still alive, A attacks B. Specifics: The defender's longest weapon is used for repels, not counting lances. With multiple weapons of the same length, the first is used. If a multi-attack weapon (like a flail) repels, it gets the multiple attacks, but damage is still capped at 1, total. I do not know if AOE attacks can repel, but they cannot be repelled. Repelling does NOT generate fatigue. The only important weapon-length considerations other than repels: 1) Multiple weapons reduce attack by the sum of all weapon lengths on non-ambidextrous units. 2) Length-0 weapons attacking poisonous units (Atlantians, Spine Devils) will be poisoned. Yes, this includes cavalry Hoof attacks (except in my mod, where that's fixed). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: length of weapons
Are length-6 weapons permitted to repel? Or is it treated as a special case?
(ex: Wailing Lady's wail of death; it's actually an area-1 length-6 melee weapon! I seem to recall there's another one, too.) |
Re: length of weapons
Since length 6 weapons include dancing tridents, stone birds, owls, and, wait for it, pikes, I would assume so.
Thanks SC! |
