What language is the source code? Where would be the best place for someone like me to learn it?

Looks like C or C++ I'd have to study it a bit more to see wether it'c C++ but my first guess is that its C (also considdering its age) the code is well documented imho, but I'd think you'd need to have quite some experience in coding to understand the code. mainly because you need to grasp which goes where, if you were to make mods or edits you would have to make a good layout of teh code first, what goes where etc, I havent studied it fully yet maybe it is included, but if you just go and make changes in the code there's bound to be major bugs.

I doubt the source code of homeworld can be "learned" if you dont have any experience with it at all http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif It takes years to get a proper understanding of programm languages i think.

Re: Homeworld Source Code!?!?

everyone can learn to program in at most a year, the matter is to learn GOOD programming (and it definetly hasnt become much easier with OOP to learn good programming) once you know how to program grasping a new language is a matter of a few weeks. but once again you can learn a language but you can only learn its intricacies and specialties by doing stuff and learning. but as a programmer (which I study for) you're expected to grasp a new programming language in a matter of one to two weeks.

I think it's c++ but i'm not sure, i don't have too much time to check out the code, anyone can learn programming, and as for the best place well... i don't know, i don't even know where are you from, you could download some tutorials from internet but they're all too basic.... imho you'll need more than some experience to undestand it.... anyway with the source code there are some intresting tools.
