Noob Here

Been playing Space Empires for years, this is one addicting great game. Started with SEII (Demo only) and played that for 4 or so years before I got SEIV (1.49). Been playing that for the past 3 + years. Gonna get the new one (V) when it comes out.

Is it really worth my $ to get IV Gold or just wait for V?

I have been reading some of the threads/posts in the forum and WOW am I missing a lot. For one, I never use the Minister functions. I guess I am missing a lot there and I am probably taking too long to get to certain tech levels by doing so.

My current game strategy takes me about 200-250 turns before all is conquered. I use a lot of mines and just started using fighters within the last year. Usually buy the time I get to the luxury of building fighters I am cruising through systems with minimal resistance any ways.

Buy the way my comments are not meant to brag and I fully realize that there is a lot more to the game than what/how I play it. I look forward to getting my butt handed to me whenever I get to opportunity to play on line. Is online play still going?

Thanks for any feed back and watch your 6.

If SEIV Deluxe is priced like Starfury, at around 20 dollars, I think it would definitely be worthwhile. SEV is still many months away. A lot of great mods require SEIV Gold (or Deluxe, which is going to be the same thing), so you essentially get 20 or 30 games in one for 20 bucks. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Even in Gold, the ministers are quite stupid. The most important thing pre-Gold is missing is all the bug fixes in Gold.

If you decide to wait for SEV, it'll almost certainly take at least 5 or 6 months, possibly more before it's released. If you want to play online in the mean time, Gold is almost a necessity because almost everyone playing on PBW already has it, may not even have pre-Gold at all anymore, and probably wouldn't want to go back to it anyway. You may find some opponents for a 1.49 match if you look hard enough, but it's much easier to get a Gold 1.91 game going. Unfortunately, SEIV Gold is currently in limbo between the end of Shrapnel's sales and the beginning of the rerelease by Strategy First as SEIV Deluxe. Your best bet for finding a copy quickly is online auction sites like ebay.

Um, where do I get it. The Malfador site does not seem to carry it. Is it in stores (Electronic Boutique)?

So SEIV Deluxe is not out either?

You'll only find it (SE:IV Gold) second hand right now on e-bay or amazon.

SE:IV Deluxe should be out shortly I'd think.

That's a big no-go at eBay and Amazon.

Stuck waiting. Meanwhile, I will be sharpening my knives.

When you do get Gold (or Deluxe), make sure to get the TDM modpack. It's a mod that alters only the AI files, making them way way more difficult that stock AI's. You probably won't run over them nearly as fast http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Sorry, I don't have a link for it right now, but when you get Gold, you should make sure you get the TDM modpack too, if you want a single player challenge.

If you live in the US, this item still has about 6 hours left on the bidding.
