Very poor performance?

I have a 2.8ghz machine, 1 gig of ram, and a new video card. I run with winXP. I have a couple of distinct slowdowns -

menu screen buttons - delayed clicking (not that bad)

right clicking on a unit for info - 2-5 second delay (painful)

screen scrolling delay - when my mouse hits the very edge of the screen to scroll, there is a full second delay before it actually starts to scroll. (very painful!)

animation delay - explosions (like grenade launcher) draw very slowly. solved easily enough by taking "animations" slider to zero.

I've tried setting all of the delays to 0, even in the .ini file. Everything runs very smoothly except for the things that I mentioned. Ive tried running in both screen modes, directx and the other option, no difference in any of them. I've made sure to not start any other programs before starting the game.

This is frustrating. I absolutely loved SP2 when it first came out and am really itching to play http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Very poor performance?

No prob - just disable all spyware, trojans, unneeded Win Services etc .. (am I joking? From experience, I'm not sure any more http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif )

Run
- DxDiag, save the info as text file
- run MSInfo (last index, button right in the middle), save the Info to txt file

Zip up the files and upload them as attachment.

If you're bored, download
- autoruns (http://www.sysinternals.com/utilities/autoruns.html)
and post the results, too

If you are very bored or desperate, download - Everest (http://www.lavalys.com/products/over...=1&lang=en) and fiddle around with it...

As soon as we know hard facts, we can get to work http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: Very poor performance?

go into msconfig and see what is running. you can cutoff most things there and get a better performance. This is a list of what the computer runs when it starts up. a lot of programs will set themself to run. the only things I run is my virus software ad Gamma loader and nothing elese.
