A0 Headquarters unit

The default HQ unit is a group of six men who apparently are INF primary rated. Besides being cautious of obvious time constraints, what significant detriments are there to making the HQ an armor unit with ARM primary rated to command an armor batallion?

Vehicle or armor units are easier to kill with a single shot, and losing the head of your army is very critical!

And the idea that you might use them. My HQ cowers with pride and is very good at not being seen.

Assuming at least some ability to keep the A0 HQ alive, does the improved ARM rating improve the game (for armor) in lieu of an INF rated A0 HQ??

Re: A0 Headquarters unit

A0 unit can provide skill rating boost to all other units, other than rally all other units, that are in contact with it. So if you have an armor battle group an A0 armor unit will have armor skill higher than an infantry type A0 unit.

It is a heatquarters type unit - and therefore has better artillery response delay than any other unit other than FOO.

If you change it to a vehicle type, you will lose the extra arty command, and as others have posted, you will have exchanged something from a relatively survivable jeep-load of officers to a single vehicle which can be killed in one stroke (and is more atrractive to strile planes http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif!

I leave mine as-is in any campaign, unlike say SP1, where converting 1 unit of the 24 or so of the max core size could help influence the game by actually using the HQ as a fighting unit. The extra panther (used carefully) could swing things there.

Cheers
Andy
