Talisman + Neural Interface
My race is not "Deeply Religious" but one of my foes is.
I have come into possession of one of that foe's ships, and it has the Talisman. That's good, but it's obviously much more bad than good as it means that he has managed to research all the way to it. I do have the Neural Interface, though. So, can I equip each warship in my main battlefleet with the Neural Interface, include my trophy Talisman ship in the same fleet, and get 100% accuracy? The NI allows the intra-fleet sharing of the best experience-derived accuracy, but will it share Talisman-derived accuracy? IIRC, only one Talisman is needed in a stack of units, such as Weapons Platforms, meaning that Talisman ability does get shared in at least that way. (Obviously, if that works in the game, I'd give the fleet "break formation" strategy and the Talisman ship "run away" orders.) |
Re: Talisman + Neural Interface
Neural Combat Net only causes ship experience to be shared. It does not share any other combat bonuses, including the Talisman.

Re: Talisman + Neural Interface
<sigh>
I was afraid of that. I knew that a stack of units is treated in the engine as a single item, but had hoped .... Nuts, this is not going to be pretty. Still, I have accuracy III and fleet/ship training in progress. His'll still shoot better, but I think I'm one or two ship classes ahead of him. After all, my research points did not go to pursue the Talisman like he did. Also, we've both it past the Polaron beam window, but I think I'm also 1 or 2 phased shield levels ahead, and the same with PPBs. (Missiles and fighters are out, as we've both got AA IV or V) I better press, though. Time does not look to be on my side anymore. |
Re: Talisman + Neural Interface
From the "Known Bugs" list:
"29. Neural Combat Nets don't work. It's not just a display bug, either. I had two identical ships each with neural combat nets, one with 0% experience and the other with 50% experience, fight one very heavily shielded dreadnought. Almost all shooting happened at point blank range, where the base chance to hit in my test game was 25%. The hit rates for the two ships over the many combat turns required to bring down the dreadnoughts shields were well within reasonable random error of 25% for one and 75% for the other. I tested this in both sequential and simultaneous movement, using tactical combat for sequential movement." |
Re: Talisman + Neural Interface
Nueral intefaces don't work?. I'm in a game where I gave every ship an interface and now I learn it was a waste of time http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

Re: Talisman + Neural Interface
I can't remember who ran that test, but I was wondering if the two ships were part of the same fleet- or if it was just two ships in the same sector?

Re: Talisman + Neural Interface
I'm the one who ran that test, and the two ships were in the same fleet. I even tried training the fleet, but that didn't change the difference between the two ships' hit rates.
