Is magic duel broken again?
 

Well, is it broken again or am I just having really bad luck? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/Sick.gif

Currently playing a SP game as Rlyeh and have been consistently losing level 3 astral mages to puny little level 1 astral mage enemies (Jotunheim hags). The little gals are the ones casting the duel.

Running patch 2.16 and saw in the 2.14 documentation the following:
"Magic duel did not work properly (favored the little guy)."

Anyone else having trouble?

I'm guessing bad luck. Also, keep in mind booster items do not count in a duel.

There's also something fishy about Light of the Northern Star, as it appears to give +1 to *all* mages on the battlefield, including the enemy. That sort may also improve Magic Duel odds, unlike virtually every other single +Astral thing, so it could be your problem.

Astral boost items don't count in a duel?

No boost works according to the devs, but I confess I have my doubts about some of the spells (check the Known Issues on this topic, a thread buried somewhere on the forum). More than one spell on didn't seem to help at all though, so it looks like you won't be able to get more than +1 to your Astral base level at most (and you could very well end up with no bonus whatsoever).
