OT: Downloading TV Shows
While doing a google search looking for information on lower cost DVD collections of old TV shows I came across this link: http://unlimitedtvshows.com/ From what I can tell you pay a one time fee of $30.00 and gain access to literally hundreds of "legal" TV shows, music, movies, software, and more. I visited the web site and it seems real enough but I am very skeptical.
I mean there is no real information about the service, a p2p service from the looks of it, and even though I could not find any bad info I also couldn't locate any postive info. So do any of you know if this site is lagit or is it a scam out to collect credit card numbers? |
Re: OT: Downloading TV Shows
why waste the money when you can just get K* or L*. even if it is legit.

Re: OT: Downloading TV Shows
In order to be "legal" the copyright owners of these shows must have specifically given permission for them to be downloaded. I've not heard of any of the big networks making any deals lately. It could well be a scam, but it might just be a lot of junk. What you'll probably get, if anything at all (i.e. it's not a simple phishing scheme) is TV shows from overseas that you won't even understand (Maybe Japanese? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif ) or very inane stuff from "community access" channels.

Re: OT: Downloading TV Shows
perhaps they should list out what they have to offer... Their demo has classical music, which can be downloaded legally and freely at many sites.

Re: OT: Downloading TV Shows
Well, at any site. The copyright on all classical music (That is, music from the classical period) has become public domain.
As I understand it, all recordings of it are therefore public domain - And anyone trying to sell it (At the very least, they might be able to charge Shipping and Handling and for the CD), is doing so illegally. Of course, that's just my vaguely informed opinion. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: OT: Downloading TV Shows
You just don't need to pay the composer or the rights holder. However the people performing said tune may still want to be paid and, as you say, the CD and shipping ain't free.

Re: OT: Downloading TV Shows
It is a scam. They want you to pay them for a Kaaza like p2p program. They DO NOT provide any downloads, only the network for people to "swap" files. It is an illegal operation. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif I will just buy from Amazon. I want legally own anything I download without fear of fines and or civil actions.

And anyone trying to sell it... is doing so illegally. There is nothing illegal about selling classical music. Is selling a work of Shakespeare illegal? Nope. Just because the copyright expires does not mean it can't be sold. That just means that anyone can sell or give it away, or base works on it, without paying any royalties to the owner. You can't really claim the originals as your own work, but you can certainly sell them. |
Re: OT: Downloading TV Shows
I wonder how long it will take before this site gets shut down, I hope soon. It really is misleading and evil!

Re: OT: Downloading TV Shows
Ah, right. My mistake. Sorry.
If I only could remember half the things I'd forgot, that would be a lot of stuff, I think - I don't know; I forgot! |
