Casting spells on another player anonymously...

Creolin, if you are reading this post, move on... nothing to see here... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

I was wondering if there was a list of dirty, underhanded spells that could be cast on another player anonymously. Not that I would ever do such a thing to an ally, but just in case the topic were to come up in day to day conversation... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Some spell descriptions tell you that the other player will not know who cast it upon them (ie Raging Hearts), but I suspect that there are others available in the arsenal.

Thank you in advance!

One of the spell reference documents circulating arround notes whether the spell in anonymous or not.

However, I am sorry that I do not recall which one it actually is. Just check the usual download sites and look for a spreadsheet which is colored and has different pages for different spell type. The "ranged attack"-spell pages is the one you want to look at. So I cannot help you with your search, but I can tell you that your search is not hopeless... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: Casting spells on another player anonymously..

Mostly, the ones that could possibly leave a province in the caster's control identify the caster - Call of the Wild, Call of the Winds, etc. If it's an "independent" attack force (Ghost Riders, Phantasmal Attack) or simply does damage (Seeking Arrow, Fires from Afar) then they don't have a clue, which can lead to some serious angst - players have a tendency to get pissed off when losing armies, temples, mages, etc, and get angry at the person they think is casting it, even though it might be someone else.

A scout with a bane venom charm or spies are possible too, as long as they don't get caught.

I may not have all of the anonymous attack spells... but here are some of them:

Spells where you don't know who casted them:

CONJURATION:

A) Locust Swarm : also causes 15 - 20 unrest points. The spell is anonymous.

ALTERATION:

A) Baleful Star : makes about 30 unrest in the target province, and temporarily shifts local dominions 2 steps toward unluck (this might have further effects in the next few turns, depending on the base luck dominion). Also, there is a small chance for every unit in the province that it will be cursed (MR offers no protection). The spell is anonymous.

B) Blight : makes about 15 unrest in the target province, and kills about 5 % of the population. The spell is anonymous.

C) Wolven Winter : makes the target province colder (temporary shift +3 toward cold), but does not make any unrest. Income is still affected by the cold if the 'natural' dominion is not cold. This spell is anonymous.

EVOCATION:

A) Tidal Wave : kills 40% of the population and makes about 40 unrest points. It is anonymous.

B) Volcanic Eruption : kills 30% of the population and makes about 30 unrest points. It is anonymous.

ENCHANTMENT:

A) Seeking Arrow : makes 5-15 damage and a chest wound. Anti-missile items or etherealness do protect the target (probably at 75%). The spell is anonymous. You can not target an underwater province and you can not hit a sneaking leader.

THAUMATURGY:

A) Raging Hearts : makes about 60 unrest in the target province, but no shift toward turmoil. It is anonymous.

BLOOD:

A) Rain of Toads : makes about 40 unrest in the target province and temporarily shift the local dominion toward unluck. The spell is anonymous.

Thank you for your help!
I found some very useful info on this at Sunray's library.
The following is his "THAT'S NOT IN THE SPELL MANUAL" list:
http://www.freewebs.com/sunray_dom2/spells.html

and there is an Excel spreadsheet that is helpfull here:

Rain of Toads can also cause units in the province to get diseased...
Black Death (THAU8 D5) should be added to the above list. Kills 50% of the population, adds some unrest.
Spell manual doesn't state whether Melancholia (THAU6 E5) is anonymous. Is it? (Known effect: Pushes scale toward Sloth 3, drops local Dominion by 1 or 2, some troops desert their posts)

Pretty sure that it's as I said : if the spell doesn't put troops down that would belong to the caster, the spell is anonymous. Hard to tell the cause of an earthquake, volcano, or plague of undead riders that vanish (and that would attack the caster's own troops in any case - I've wiped out my capitol's PD with a casting http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif ).

Yep Cainehill. As far as I can tell so far, your rule of thumb is very accurate. I suspect that I will be casting Rain of Toads and Black Death in the next few turns... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
