COIN stikes WAY off target
Is there any chance of tightening up the area of engagement for COIN stikes? I just had another bad PBEM run where my Mig-21 COIN planes hit my arty park.
I plotted the ingress from the opposite end of the map, planes took NO AA fire, yet dropped hurt on my mortar park that was over 70+ plus hexes (over 3km I think) from the plot hex. My FO could not see the hill top where the stike was to take place, but being this far off target is silly IMO. I fully expect to have issues of friendly fire from air to a certain extent, but 3km? The only real success I have had with COIN planes is if I have NO soft units on my side. I know if there is no LOS to target, you are taking a risk, but I don't see why things should drift this far outta whack. Especially in a prepared assault battles against know fixed defensive postions on prominent terrain features. I know this would be really a pain to code, but it would be nice to establish a no fire zone on the map for friendly airstikes. The map we are playing on has very obvious terrain features, with hills in the NW and a city in the SE, on the other side of a river. This is where my mortars are postioned, in the city. I would think it would be in the realm of reality in a prepared assault that the assigned airstrikes would know that anything in the city is friendly and not drop ordinance in that area. Just a thought. Thanks Scott |
Re: COIN stikes WAY off target
Hi Scotty,
In order to avoid such an unlucky event (friendly fire) you may assign the entry point of the airstrike to be a different one... Like for example the enemy side! friendly yours, Pyros p.s Hope you doing fine http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: COIN stikes WAY off target
Opposite end as I stated was the enemy side. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: COIN stikes WAY off target
Then, you could experiment with the exit direction (diagonal zone)... LOL http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Re: COIN stikes WAY off target
I did that too. lol

Re: COIN stikes WAY off target
In a more precise analysis:
When an airplane is doing a blind airstrike then if it follows a diagonal route it will travel 40% more time inside the enemy control zone, which means an increase of 40% in its ability to spot a valid target. cheers, Pyros |
Re: COIN stikes WAY off target
That's what I plotted, ingress from the NW from the enemy side and egress NE. 3 km off target is still rather silly IMO. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: COIN stikes WAY off target
Attach a save if you have one. I have NEVER seen an airstrike go that radically wrong for no reason.

Re: COIN stikes WAY off target
COIN strikes going extremely way off target should already be fixed in the patch. I cannot recall if there was a special bullet for it or not, but I recall doing some work on planes going off far too far on rare occasions.
(if Don cannot get the same behaivoiur with the save game, then it is sorted) Andy |
