Democracy at work :)

Ok, with the new patch (1.33+) in the works we all know that a new modpack can't be far behind with the usual bells and whistles. Tweaked AI and new races have been the standard and this is what I was thinking. LET THE PEOPLE BE HEARD! http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif How about a referendum (yes, we Canadians love them..) on which shipset should be included??
There are tonnes out there but most of the AI's are lacking, it would be nice to see the 'Masters of Mod' bring them up to speed.
Here are my five picks:
1.The Borg: the one I have just uses missiles and trac beams, not very smart at that either.
2.The Empire (starwars, any of them, just a good fearsome Empire.)
3.The Centauri (logical after the recent inclusion of the Narn).
4.TWEAK THE EEE (come on , give them a chance! http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
5. and Lastly, SPACEBALLS! (come on, you know you can do it, I dare you! I'll do anything! If you don't I'll find some way to hire Shatner to sing for you!) http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
And yes, again I babble. Just one of these included would really make my day.
Humbly yours....

I think that would be nice and all, but I don't think MM could officially include those kinds of shipsets with their game. My guess is that they would run into copyright or trademark or patent or whatever type of laws that would force them to pay royalties or face legal action if they included shipsets referring to such well known sci-fi races. Of course, modders can do whatever they want since they don't profit from it, but I don't think MM could do it without trouble.

What about just linking to a major fan site that has all the empires for download?

Who here is a lawyer?

You think anyone in here would be crazy enough to admit that they are a lawyer??? http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

I vote against having the french-speaking ships secede from the fleet. Furthermore, I'm really tired of getting my combat results Messages from those guys in french only. Would it be asking too much to get an english translation here?

Oh, and I'll be posting the files for my NEWFIE race here very soon now... http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif

I don't know if it's compatible with the modpack ethos of preserving compatibility with the base game, but I'd really like to see Suicide_Junkie's pirate mod in the next release.

That way I could be sure that the .emp files were SJ compatible and also I suspect this would improve the odds of MM one day adding pirates to a patch.

Each mod pack is owned by the people who wrote them. So they each have rules on what should and should not be included.

I know MM are busy but I'd really like to see some of these user mods and races making it into "official" updates (ie the patches).

I already have 2 installations of SEIV to cope with the two different configurations needed for my 2 different PBEM games.

It would be much better if MM included what they thought were the best mods into the game so that ppl could play with a standard installation but not feel they are missing out on anything.

There is an exception to every rule. Including this one.

I was pretty much blown away when I found out you could customize so much in Space Empires IV. I still am in awe of Aaron for the whole concept. I think it might be going against the spirit of the game if Aaron were to come out in favor of one mod or the other. They are all great in their own way. It all depends on what you are looking for.

Of course, Aaron, (How does he find the time?!?) seems to have modified the default AI files to improve the default configuration according to mods created by players. Is that amazing or what?

Due to copyrights, MM can not take any of the Mods that contain B5,Star trek, Star wars AI's and use them as offical patchs. He has taken some of the non related parts and added them.
