Why didn\'t the ghost king rout?

Can someone look at the battle replay in Caelum and tell me why the ghost king didn't rout when the rest of the army was destroyed? I lost a lot of vine ogres in that battle. Thanks.

Bug?

I don't think normal routing rules persist when defending a castle. It would seem to me that your commaders won't retreat unless instructed to; dunno whether it's a bug, feature, or the anchovies from the dinner yesterday.

Isn't the ghost king immortal? I think I remember reading somewhere that immortal pretenders never rout. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Wouldn't be the first time! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

He's not immortal. You're thinking Vampire Queen, I'm sure http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

There's been a number of inconsistencies in the routing mechanism for quite some time. I believe the term is "bugs", albeit the devs have never actually commented on whether or not it's a "feature". http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I think Jurri is right and it has to do with defending a castle. Don't retreating units from a castle defense die anyways? They might as well stay and fight to the end http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Units can, unfortunately, escape from a siege if they own an adjacent province.

However, a commander in a castle never runs away because of losing all the troops under his command. If it makes you feel better, consider that the Ghost King still has troops under his command - the castle archers. You can't attack them, and you can't interact with them, but they are there. And they never run.

Note that troops will run away like little girls if they have no commanders. It's just that the other way will never happen.

Does this imply that an SC will keep fighting if it commands a single limping blind armless archer sitting in the rear of the battlefield? Or does this merely say that the Moloch's personal imp horde is not a hindrance in the case of fighting castle stormers (since the auto-rout by loosing all troops will not occur)?

Both are true - as long as the archer doesn't rout.
