Bad Target Bug

I've played a couple of battles against the Soviets in 1984 and there appear infantry units that the game will not allow me to shoot at. They were Sagger ATGM and AGS-17 GL teams. When I fire at them I get a "BAD TARGET" note and when I right click on the unit the only odd thing I see is reinforce 11 or 7. Has anybody else experienced this? <font color="black"> </font> http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

For this one I **really** have to see a save game. There is a "BAD TARGET" message in the code but I've never seen it displayed. I had to check the code just to be sure there was.

Was this a generated battle or campaign or a scenario?

What were you trying to shoot at them with?

Re: Bad Target Bug

It was a generated battle, both instances, and in the first game I shot at it with several Chieftains,a FV432 and Mech Inf Squads nothing. The second game was a test battle between the US and I shot at the Sagger Team with several M60A3(TTS), M113ACAV and infantry again the bad target message came up. I have the British game saved. I have several machines running both Win XP and Me and its happening on all of them. I'm kind wet behind the ears so if you give me instuctions I can try to send the saved British/Soviet battle to you.

Re: Bad Target Bug

Save the game and record the save slot number then open up your "Saved games" folder. You will see something like....

SpSv016.cmt
SpSv016.dat

if the save is slot 16.

ZIP those two files up and you can attach them to a post here. You will be prompted for a attachemt if you press " Preview Reply.

I'll look at it when you send it. If you see this happen save right away then keep playing. If you see it again right away note down which unit fired and which unit you were firing at so I can try to duplicate this. If you have an existing save that shows this in a replay of the turn send that too

Re: Bad Target Bug

They should not (yet) be on the map if they are reinforcements. That message comes up if the weapon or unit index is out of bounds, or you have hit a target which has the reinforcement turn set to &gt;0, ie it's a reinforcement unit not yet on the map (supposedly).

As Don says - a save game would be most useful here, to debug this, or a note of the scenario number if this is a scenario game.

Re: Bad Target Bug

The units that I shot at were not designated as reinforcements so that is puzzling. I didn't have time last night to forward a copy of the files to you, I'm at work now, but I will get them to you asap. Thank you for your work and morphing SPMBT into the windows os.

Re: Bad Target Bug

When you send it we need all the details. What kind of game is it...generated, scenario, campaign etc etc. As Andy said. That message should not appear unless the are re-enforcements and they shouldn't be there at all and as you are the only one to have ever reported this we'll need any other background info about how you set the game up as possible. SOMETIMES allowing the AI to set up player 2 then the human player breaking in once the game gets interesting and playing from that side can generate re-inforcements in a generated game that now the human player is controling. IDK if that is the case here but when one person reports a message neither of the game designers has ever seen pop up I have to ask lot's of questions http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
