Windows is for losers...

... and I'm a loser. No more Linux for me... I tried upgrading from XFree86 to X.org, and that screwed something up with my video card, and while trying to fix that I decided to try and reinstall Linux, but halfway through it tells me I have to basically wipe the hard drive in order for the install not to be corrupted, so without thinking I delete *just one partition*... but that's not enough, and getting frustrated with everything I just decided to wipe everything and boot from my Windows backup CD's I'd at least remembered to make just before wiping the HD to install Linux several months ago...

So my website's gone, and I have to reinstall pretty much all my software... but on the plus side, no need to mess around with tricky DirectX WINE settings once SE5 comes out http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif And I get to play X2: The Threat, which might keep me occupied, seeing as the last time I played it was on the old laptop where it barely ran...

All in all, the only thing I'm really worried about is the SE2-ism mod... hopefully SOMEONE managed to snag that before the system went down??? Everything else I really care about is stored somewhere else, either on the Internet or on the family PC or on a CD or on someone else's PC when they downloaded it from mine (I *really* don't want to lose that DirectX plugin for AoI; I'd better post at the AoI forum just to make sure someone sends it to me again before it gets deleted off their HD!)

Oh yeah... the Star Control Mod is gone, too... but I never really expected that to get anywhere... I hope no one over at the SC forums will be too pissed off about that... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Sorry to hear this Ed. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif What is Star Control anyways?

Its really not much of a upgrade. Xorg was forked because a licensing issue with XFree86. A few things have been added (like really slow transparency) but you basically killed your system for no good reason. If you want transparency right now do it with your window manager.
I don't care if your using windows, mac or *nix they all need to be backed up when you do a major upgrade.

Yeah, same thing happens to me. Linux was so clean, and the net was so well integrated into the operating system, and I don't use many commercial Windows programs, but still: I had to play my games. I just had to.
