Editing In Progress PBEM/Tourney Games
I've read the game guide, and played around with the editor and tournament mode on the CD version, and I don't think its possible, but I want to be sure:
Is there any way to open an ongoing PBEM game with the editor, to make changes (e.g. to add in some units)? Not for cheating mind you http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif but rather to enable a game referee to go in and make changes mid-game. E.g. - this is for a campaign ruleset so I was consiering whether or not a player could in the middle of the battle decide "I really need some helis" and allocate them to the battle. The referee could accomplish this via the editor. The reinforcement function won't work as a substitute because I'm contemplating a situation where the decision is made AFTER the battle has begun. I can't even figure out how to do it if the game is not secure since when you try to LOAD anything from the Editor, you are only presented with scenario options. Thanks in advance. |

No.
A PBEM game, like any other game is played right through with the set of forces as purchased in the set-up phase. Campaign core upgrades are done between battles. Cheers Andy |
Re: Editing In Progress PBEM/Tourney Games
Yes you can add units to an ongoing PBEM but O N L Y is it is unsecure. You CANNOT do this with a game that is passworded
-Play the game to the point you want to add units. -Save it. Make a note of the save slot -Open your \Saved Games folder and copy that save to you \Scenarios folder -rename BOTH save files to the same naming conventions used in \Scenarios i.e. spscn474.cmt and spscn474.dat -Open those new "scenarios" in the game scenario editor and make your additions -When done save the "scenario" then go to the \Scenarios folder and name them back to the save game you were using When you are done the game will have the additions BUT... the number of turns will be reset to 1 so if you had 10 turns left in the original game you would need to make that new "scenario" ten turns long Don |

Thank you Andy, thank you Don.
I would add that this would be a nice function, if at all possible -- to permit a 3rd party the ability to tweak the game in progress (even if secure). Seems to fit nicely into tournament idea. That said, its a relatively minor addition to the game's functionality and would certainly not justify extensive coding efforts =). Unless of course a bunch of other folks post in this thread that they'd love to see it too!!! Anyhow, got my CD yesterday and the editor plus higher resolutions alone justify the cost. Great work! |
