ulm black forest
ulm black forst I find is OKAY
but I think there are some things I can do to make it better I have a lich with: death 5 nature 4 astral 4 black fortress 1 productivity 1 order 1 death -1 fortune 2 magic are these good settings? I plan to play this nation in a wierd way I think...: 1. build 4 wolf herders 2. get as many Mot2T as I can and research thaumaturgy 4 3. build a wolf army to go with my starting army send my wolf herders and send them with my army 4. conquer provinces until I reach a choke point here I raise the PD and build a fortress then I do the same on the other side such as on the middle earth map 5. send out priests and my god to search for magic sites and build temples. 6. research 8 constuction then conjuration 7. if that undead guy with a bit of blood and can summon thralls comes I boost him up give him the biggest and best army I can such as: 75 villans 85 ghoul gardians 25 or some thing like that, magic creatures then I make him magic items and put him at the frontish of my army and smeg the lot of them 8. do the same with 2 capt. rangers but I give them bows and 2 mages then I go on a killing spree and kill a nation rest for 20 turns and start the whole thing again but with more mages (as research is all but complete) and things cast loads of gift of reasons on migical or wicked troops and give them an army such as: titans vampires drakes hama dryads and others give them an army and send them off to reinforce vital locations |
Re: ulm black forest
We can't vote yet but... I think you'll want blood magic on your pretender so you can cast sanguine heritage (its a national spell) to make vampire counts. Its an important part of ulm BF. |

Full order is a must in almost any situation. Villians are not worth it, use rangers. Ghoul gaurdians are expensive and banished easily. The creatures you suggest GoRing are almost all not very useful. Vampires you can summon in commander form already. Hama dryads die if you move them around much. Drakes have few slots and are not that great anyway. Titans (if you mean tartarians), on the other hand, are a very good idea to GoR. |
Re: ulm black forest
Rangers and the basic infantry/pikemen as a shield wall is the way to go. Villains suck worm-infested carrion beast balls. If you do need shortbow archers, find aprovince with druids and woodsmen, build a fort there and inundate the world with woodsmen. Much better.
Dark Citadel is useless, take the 60 point fort instead. And as already said, you need blood magic. The best combat mage the BF Ulm has is an SD Fortune Teller once you get to Nether Bolt and later Nether Darts from Evocation. Put a line of them at the back and watch enemy armies disappear in a rain of dark power. Wolf herders are not all that great, their only function is to summon free fodder, but you can't do tha to excess or your armies will starve. And BF Ulm has a serious leadership deficiency, all of their commanders suck the aforementioned anatomical part leadership wise. They need either a crown of command or being replaced by an indie mounted commander or whatever you can summon (such as Banes). Edi |
Re: ulm black forest
You have nice scales, but I'm not sure if those are the optimum magics for Black Forest. The Sanguine Heritage is quite a good spell, so you would want both Death and Blood on your pretender. Nature 2 or 3 would be enough to get higher with boosters, especially if your pretender had Astral and could forge Moonvine Bracelet. However, Astral isn't that important, and could be risky for a combatant pretender unless she was immortal. Speaking of immortal SCs with Blood and Death, Vampire Queen is pretty close to optimum. With two new paths getting high enough dominion to use her and Vampire Counts from Sanguine Heritage would be harder (Dominion 4 with B and D 3, and two others at levels 3 and 2), so you would probably have to take few more negative scales.
Also, you took positive production. Use it. Rangers are very good, much better than villains in most cases. I don't think advancing through Wolfherders is fast enough, but the wolves can be quite good support units and arrow fodder, and they are fast. |
Re: ulm black forest
thank you as for sanguine heritage I did not know about this and as for villains the only reason I use them is because they can shoot every turn.
the wolves I use as fodder for my defense they run in kill a few people or slow them down and suck up arrows too. ghoul guardians are good if I have and unholy priest so that he can protect them from banishment here is a formation for my main army: * god % wolves ^ ghoul guardians ! mages $ archers £ infantry of ulm . spaces !..$$...............%% !..$$ !..$$....^£££...% ...$.....^£££...% *..$.....^£££...% ...$.....^£££...% !..$$ !..$$ !..$$...............%% (this has other commanders but they are not shown) |

Re: ulm black forest
ASCII stands for 'American Standard Code for Information Interchange' No, not being sarcastic. I have a nostalgic appreciation for ascii (and similar) diagrams. |
