Assault on Limbang 12/1962
1 Attachment(s)
This is a short, sharp, scenario based on 'L' Coy, 42 Cdo Royal Marines assault on the river town of Limbang in Sarawak. It is intended to play UK as player 1 vs the AI as (TKNU/Indonesia) player 2. The AI doesn't faithfully replicate the TKNU fire, but still, be careful where you land and keep an eye on the number of turns remaining. Also remember the "Z" craft are only equipped with 'improvised' armour!
Date: December 12th 1962 Battle Location: Limbang, Sarawak Battle Type: North Kalimantan National Army (TKNU) defend vs UK assault. Description: 'L' Coy Gp, 42 Cdo is to rescue hostages from TKNU rebels who have seized Limbang. You will : a. Rescue the hostages, and b. Recapture the town Units: UK: 'L' Coy (-), HMG Sec Support Coy (-), 2 "Z" craft landing barges with improvised armour, one armed by HMG Sec Support Coy. Hostages: Six plus, location unknown, Police Station likely. TKNU: 30-100 (estimated) Plan: Rapid assault on Police Station at 05:00hrs. "Z" Craft to land Coy Tactical HQ and 5 Troop at Police Station. Armed "Z" Craft to cover with HMGs. 6 and 4 Troops to reinforce and/or exploit as situation develops. Notes: If played against the AI the human player should take 'Player 1'. Historical Note: Full details on this action, and the rest of the Borneo Campaign can be found at: http://www.britains-smallwars.com/Borneo/index.html All live hostages were rescued and Limbang cleared of rebel forces. 5 Marines were killed and 8 wounded, with the TKNU sustaining 15 KIA, 3 WIA & 8 POW during the action. Captain J Moore was awarded a bar to the Military Cross he had won during the 'Malayan Emergency', Cpls Lester and Rawlinson received Military Medals. Naval personnel on the Z Craft were also decorated. 'Lima' Company, 42 Commando, Royal Marines became 'Limbang Company', and, as Maj.Gen. Jeremy Moore, MC and Bar RM, OC 'L' Coy 42 Cdo RM commanded British Land Forces in the Falklands/Malvinas conflict nearly twenty years later. In Memory of: Sergeant W.G.Macfarlane RM, Marines G.Kiernans, F.S.Powell, R.D.Formoy & R.Jennings. Andy "Weeble" Weaver |
Re: Assault on Limbang 12/1962
In the old SPMBT there was a Limbang scenario, and i enjoyed that one very much. I was happy someone creating a new scenario on that situation.
Achieved yesterday night a Decisive Victory. An easy, fun scenario. I enjoyed the "raid" idea, act fast and get the objectives. At least my playing was in that way. In the end i took 11 casualities (2 less than in the real raid), mostly becuase i used the armed barge to suppress most of the shore defenses before landing my first wave. 4 of my casualities were men from the Headquarters unit, the hostages were in the middle of a firefight between a british squad and a rebel one, and i decided to take the risk and rush forward my A0 squad to assault enemy positions from one side. It was a quite stupid decision, in game, but civilians were unharmed, so in real life it would have been a quite sensed action. The difficult part is to move between the huts keeping the units cover each other. Congratulations, good scenario, i raelly enjoyed that!! |

Well done! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif
In the actual raid 'L' Company HQ (A0) stayed aboard the unarmed 'Z' craft until a secure foothold had been gained, but as I decided to replicate the two assault craft, and their overall personnel loadouts, "unloading" disgorges all passengers onto the beach/pier. |
