Resupply Ship?
HI,
I searched around, tried a few things in game, can't figure it out ... Is it possible to make a ship that will resupply other ships? I know the repair bay and shipyard bay (or whatever its called) will fix ships, but I'm looking for soemthing to keep my distant fleets in supply. Is there such a beast? |
Re: Resupply Ship?
Basically you need ships with large amounts of supply bays. These 'tankers' will when fleeted with other ships share out their available supplies...

Re: Resupply Ship?
Yes... create a ship containing lots of Supply Storage components, and place it in a fleet with your other ships. Now the fleet's range will be extended.

Re: Resupply Ship?
I've made use of supply transports quite a bit in CBmod.
Simply design a ship that has a zillion supply tank components. Put on a set of solar panels if you have space, too. Refilling as it flies is great. Send the ship to where it is needed, and fleet with the ships that are low/out of supply. Supplies get shared evenly, so if you have a 8000/8000 supply tanker plus a 0/3000 cruiser and a 100/2500 battleship, the end result is: Battleship: 2500/2500 Cruiser: 2800/3000 Tanker: 2800/8000 Then you send the tanker back to a resupply depot to grab more supplies, or park it in a trinary star system to soak up the rays. --- At high tech in stock, there is also the quantum reactor which gives your ship infinite supplies. When fleeted with other ships, they will all be filled up to max by the infinite sharing of supplies. Note: Sharing only happens at the end of turn. Normal ships fleeted with a quantum reactor ship which use up all their supplies in combat will be dead in the water until the end of the turn. Quantum reactors suck a lot of strategy out, and many mods remove them from the game. |
Re: Resupply Ship?
Another great thing to do is to research the component that gathers sunlight and turns it into supplies. Its calle solar something, i don't remember exactly. Put these a=on your tanker ships to extend their range even further.

Yeah Kerensky that was suggested already heh http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif
Well what I normally do is put two or three tankers per four warships and in the preshield and pre-armor eras I tend to have two or three supply pods per warship. The important thing to remember is that you shouldn't over extend yourself, watch how far you penetrate into enemy lines before you get troop ships, because until a colony ship arrives and plants a supply base for you your out of luck if the enemy attacks you using attrition warfare. It's actually cost me wars that way where i have no choice but to offer the AI a major something or other to get them to accept peace for a little while. I once lost a 35 ship fleet (which at the time was the bulk of my navy) because I lost my supply ships and didn't realize I lost ALL of them until it was too late. And then it was just a matter of being whittled down until my last 20 ships had no supplies and were damaged, lol I think the AI finished them off with three destroyers. |
Re: Resupply Ship?
No, the tanker idea was already there, not the idea to put solar collectors on teh ships in pre-quantum reactor times...
Look, do I have to send my fleet of doom to your empire again? |

Okay so posting when half of your brain is inoperable and the other half is still half asleep can have bad side affects.
