Gift of Reason for Eater of the Dead?

Has anyone ever used gift of reason on an Eater of the Dead?

If so will the Eater still increase in size? And will it ever lose control??

I won't fo it if it still means that it will lose control, and me lose my commander.

yeah he'll increase in size...

I lost him in battle so i never lost control, but I imagine he still will.

He will. But if you catch the final form with Charm/Enslave Mind/Hellbind Heart, you can Gift of Reason him and he stays (as he only becomes independent after his last "evolution" and the mind-controlled one already went through it). It's an oversight of a kind, but not too powerful... The Eater of the Dead has low magic resistance, so mages can just Soul Slay/Disingterate/something else it.

i love having a bunch of charmers/enslavers in an army vrs quality over quantity armies (such as abominations) and its also really good at disrupting other armies (try using it along with a raise skeleton/ghost wolf/false horror spam)

That didn't work for me, last time I tried. I enslaved him in his final, unfettered form, and he went rogue again one round thereafter.

Oh, it seems Illwinter has fixed it. I recall someone posting in here about this discovery, so it must have gotten fixed at some point.

With the high path cost, going postal and low magic resistance... this is one of the summons not worth the gem investment. It's not in the worst summons category, but definitely below average.

Agreed. The Eater of the Dead should've been a match for three or four Vastnesses or Abominations, at the very least. I mean, c'mon. It's unique, it has high multi-path requirements, it's a level eight summon, it wastes tons of precious corpses, and you're guaranteed to lose control of it quickly if you actually make good use of it. I expected the thing to be virtually magic-immune, the sort of thing you'd need one or two proper SCs or artillery mages to bring down.
