Got a Minute? Make that 15! Tank Fight
Got a minute? Make that 15. Football is over for the day, you have a few minutes on your hands. Jump into this little quick and simple tank fight. Only a smattering of infantry here.
Don't be fooled, you still need good armor tactics or Jordan will be rolling into Jerusalem. http://www.wargamer.com/gamesdepot/details.asp?sid=4108 Design: Wild Bill Wilder Testers: Fabio Prado, Tom DeShelter, Lars Remmen Your Orders: As Captain Shamar, you have a difficult task. You must cut off the advancing Jordanians headed for Jerusalem. The newer highway is too far away, so you must take the old road up to the heights before the Holy City. Time is a factor. So are the objectives. In addition, your tanks are very valuable. There are not that many on hand for the defense of the home front. The rest are either on the Golan Heights, or headed into the Sinai. Take the objectives, avoid losses and try to get in place before the enemy is upon you. Historical Background The Israelis initiated the famous "Six-Day War" to pre-empt the upcoming Arab coalition attacks to annihilate them. Though initially caught off guard, Jordan and Syria responded with vicious attacks from the north and east. Much of the Israeli armored force was headed toward Egypt through the Sinai. There was not much left with which to defend against the other enemies. As the battles raged to the north and south of Israel, certain locations were proving to be of strategic importance. The highway from Jericho to Jerusalem was an important access route. It could be controlled by the high ground near the city. It would not be an easy task to get there. Jordanian tanks were already on the road and the only way to cut them off was using the old trail. Israeli tanks struggled up and over horrendous terrain to get there first. Out of 40 Shermans and Centurions, less than ten made it to the top. The rest of the force had broken down in the climb. As they crested the hill, the rumblings of Jordanian Pattons and Soviet provided T-54 tanks can be heard approaching their position. Outnumbered and weary, the Israeli tankers prepared to meet the enemy and destroy him. Equally intent were the Jordanian armored commanders. Many of the tank crews from Jordan had been well trained in the United States at US Army facilities and were quite capable of dealing a harsh defeat to the Sons of Jacob. |

Thanks WB. That's the first MBT I've played since the patch.
An easy DV but quick fun none the less. |
Re: Got a Minute? Make that 15! Tank Fight
Good scenario! I did very well until turn 7 I had no losses then the last 2 tanks destroyed 4 of my tanks. well i got impatient... I managed to get a MV though. This scenario would have a second name "Let the customer come to the shop" Never expose a tank in the open in SP...

It has its challenges. Play it three times and lady luck might frown on you. Sounds like you used sound tank tactics, J2k

Re: Got a Minute? Make that 15! Tank Fight
Managed a marginal victory, very good "lunch break" scenario, i only lost one tank to mech infantry hidden in the smoke...always look where you put your step http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Re: Got a Minute? Make that 15! Tank Fight
Tried it as Jordanians. Ended on turn 4. Marginal V. I was hoping maybe it was harder from the other side.

Re: Got a Minute? Make that 15! Tank Fight
I never tried it that way. One good thought is that getting a marginal from both sides or better is a great indication that it would work well as a two player game.
Thanks, J2K WB |
Re: Got a Minute? Make that 15! Tank Fight
I tried the Jordanians too. It was interesting, I managed to get a better result a DV. The Jordanian side is a bit easier. This scen is good for introducing people to PBEM giving the Jordanian side to the less experienced player.

Re: Got a Minute? Make that 15! Tank Fight
I would agree. I tried it, Artur, and got a draw. Those Israelis are dead eyes when it comes to shooting.
Its also a good "starter" scenario for those interested in learning about tank warfare and how it is done. One tank fires, one tank moves. It is so replayable, trying various tactics to see what can happen. A good learning tool. Wild Bill |
