Newbie questions :)

I'm finally getting the time to get into SE IV after getting it about two months ago - more documentation might have been helpful http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Is it possible to queue orders for ships e.g. resupply there then come back here then pick up this and move there etc.?

Related to above: is there anyway to be notified of ships that have just completed their orders so you can give them new or do you have to Spacebar through the lot checking as this takes quite a while later in the game?

Finally, this board: why on earth are the most recent Posts at the top of the thread so if you have a long thread you have to go to the Last page and scroll up which is v strange. Couldn't find any way to change this in preferences etc.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi.
To answer your questions briefly...
Yes.
No.
Because.
=-)

To reply in more detail:
The documentation is famously bad but with a community like we have there really isn't any need for any docs beyond the tutorial. Just come on in and ask away.
Reminds me actually, do we have an SEIV faq for those issues which keep coming up again and again?

As for stacking orders, yes you can and it's very useful. It does have a few flaws though:
-You can't tell a ship to unload cargo it doesn't have - so you can't say (for example) move to planet, load fighters, warp, launch fighters, because it won't accept the "launch" command until the fighters are loaded.

- there is no "wait" command, which would be really really useful. I've prattled on about this before somewhere, so I won't bore you all further.

-And the board... It has been mentioned before and I've a feeling someone has mentioned this to the site operators. You do get used to it though. The simple solution is to stay on the forum 24/7 so you never have to catch up on more than one message at a time=-)

There is an exception to every rule. Including this one.

The Ship Report (hotkey F6) has an Orders button. This lists all your ships and their current orders; when a ship has completed its orders, it shows a blank line. Clicking on a ship sends you to it, so you can give it new orders.

I found it wierd at first too, but now, I like it a lot more than the "normal" way.
As long as you're not 10 Posts behind in your reading, you don't ever have to flip pages http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

I'm thinking that the ultimate way to set up the board would be to use the reverse-pages like here, but have the most recent Posts at the bottom of each page. That way, you don't have to flip pages, and you can read straight through the thread, without having to read downwards, then go back up to get the next post.
