Help for Newbies?

I am a wargame newbie, and have recently enjoyed playing SPMBT. Great game! But I keep getting creamed... Part of the problem is that I haven't a clue what units to use where. I see the units have names with lots of numbers and letters that I don't understand (what is an M240 MMG sec, anyway?). I am not familiar with actual military jargon.

Is there a chart (perhaps html or pdf) that lists all of the unit types, along with their best application? Or maybe a strategy guide?

Thanks

I think everone wishes there were some "unit type" chart or spreadsheet!

"M240 MMG sec" is a M edium M achine G un sec tion, armed with the M240 model 7.62mm machinegun.

For the best guide to military acronyms & abbreviations try "Jane's Defence Glossary".

I think it requires free registration, but this gives access to other interesting pages as well.

The "Encyclopaedia" in the program also lists all the units by nationality, and is sub-divided into easily understandable sections. As to learning the "alphabet soup" generated by the military of all nations, that is a cross we all have to bear!
