Chasing Ghosts
Need to ask something about the attack other ships order that is given to ships or battlegroups. I know in some games I’ve played that when an enemy ship went through a wormhole, the attacking forces broke off pursuit. I’m pretty sure (now) this was when the warp point went to an unexplored system. I just had a turn process in PBW that my pursuit ships unexpectedly followed the other ships through a wormhole to their home planet, where they were destroyed.
So, do ships stop pursuit only if the other ship goes into unexplored territory or crosses a tagged minefield in the warp point? That seems to be the rule that was in play. |
Re: Chasing Ghosts
Ships will keep trying to reach their target as long as they have a path and their _empire_ has information where their target is. They will try to go around any hostile locations in the way, or known minefields if empire doctrine is set to avoid known minefields.
However, if you follow, I am not entirely sure in what cases they will stop. For example, I am not sure in what case they will follow if the system the target flees into is simply not observed, or if the target moves into an obscuring storm. I think the attacker will also go to the last known location in some cases. PvK |
Re: Chasing Ghosts
Kinda makes you wonder if a ship set to attack mode in a simultaneous game will follow another ship into a storm that hides it, or just begin to execute its next order once the ship has been lost from sight. And what would happen if the hidden ship were to become visible later? If the pursuing ship had stopped chasing it I'd bet it would not begin again.
