Barbed Wire / Tanks question

Has anyone else noticed this? When an AI controlled tank comes up against barbed wire, it won't go forward and 'flatten' the wire the next turn...it will sit or move along the wire, turn after turn. If it's an engineer tank, it will 'clear' the wire, but that's another animal.

Re: Barbed Wire / Tanks question

I had tanks and other armored vehicles get immobilised in wire hex so it seems quite reasonable.

Hmmm...I've never had that experience with tracked vehicles. Yet http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

IMHO, tanks are the best means to flatten barbed wire but the AI doesn't appear to take advantage of that.

Re: Barbed Wire / Tanks question

And I have had AI tanks and armoured cars, halftracks etc happily trundle through BW, some getting stuck in the process.

It comes down to what it thinks is worthwhile in route-planning, so if there is a really wide wire entanglement it will often decide to go through rather than round. If there appears a gap (assuming it knows of no mines in that gaphex !:) within maybe 6-10 hexes then it will often take the detour, as it thinks wire is a potential breakdown hex (which it is, like marsh and streams).

Tanks are a good way to flatten wire, until you get one tangled up with wire in the sprockets.

Cheers
Andy
