Question on Star Destroying and timing

If I have a fleet on a Warp Point - Speed 10. Will I be able to warp out of the system prior to the star being destroyed? Or does star destroying take place prior to the first move? This is in a Devnull game.

Thanks

This was asked and ansewered pretty well in a recent thread. I can't really add anything constructive, so I'll link you to that discussion. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Question on Star Destroying and timing

AFAIK, star destroying takes place as soon as the order is executed. So if you order a ship to destroy the star, that ship is a goner. If you have a separate fleet on the warp point and your star destroyer hasn't gotten to the star yet, though, the fleet will make it through. (Each turn is split into 30 "days" in which orders are executed, so if your star destroyer isn't actually on the star when you end your turn, and you order the fleet to warp, the fleet will warp as soon as it can, and if it's fast enough (speed 10 is pretty fast http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif) it will make it out of the system before the star destroyer reaches the star and executes its destruction order.)

Re: Question on Star Destroying and timing

Unless the star destroyer has 15 or more movement (not possible in stock, not sure about devnull), not counting emergency propulsion, both it and your fleet will move on day 2. The order will be determined by ship ID as explained in the thread geo linked to.

Edit: The above assumes that the star destroyer has at least 10 movement points. If it doesn't, your fleet can escape easily.

Thanks. What I wanted to do was pop in and destroy the WP defenders and then next turn if there is no Star Destroyer move on the rest of the planets. If there is one, retreat before he can do my fleet. Should work ok.

Note that if the enemy has a star destroyer sitting on the star, set to sentry and then blow up the star, then the star will blow up on the first move that ship has after your fleet arrives.

You could warp in on day 6, and have the sun blow up on day 10 for example, because the sunbuster is sentried.

Re: Question on Star Destroying and timing

I am always scared to set Star Ds that way. What if someone used an escort. Send it in against the defenses. The Star Destroyer will panic and PUSH THE BUTTON. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif Boom! Maybe minesweepers will be needed, I don't know if dieing by mines will cause ships to wake.
