Betrayal
Ok, as it currently stands you cannot attack your 'allies' in tactical/strat combat. Even if you are 'brotherly' to one, 'murderous' to another, witness them both in combat over your planet, know the 'murderous' will most likely break treaty with you in the next few turns, you cannot decide to 'discard' one ally and come to the aid of another.
Anyone else like to see this changed? I for one would like to be able to come to the aid of my true ally vs. one that I have a treaty with just to prevent him from glassing me. Esp Subugation(sp?) treaties, would like to 'throw off the chains' in midbattle and come to anothers aid. Much more 'realistic'. I know the AI could have troubles with this change but if the 'attitudes' of the AI ever get 'fixed' it could be implemented. That way an empire that you are 'murderous' toward might decide to support one of their 'real' allies in combat, surprising you http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif and adding a new twist. (the other fix I would like is AI that will BREAK treaties when it says it will, not just threaten for 10+turns.) ------------------ "The Empress took your name away," said Chance. Owen smiled coldly. "It wasn't hers to take. I'm a Deathstalker until I die. And we never forget a slight or an enemy." -Owen Deathstalker. |
Re: Betrayal
I agree that would make it more realistic and add a new element to strategy. Nice idea http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Betrayal
What I was thinking is that there are already elements in the game that would serve as a pretext for this addition. Currently there is no use for (as far as I can tell) race 'demenor'(sp?), ie psychotic to Honourable. This could be the base point for a chance of 'betrayal'. Honourable could be 0% chance and psychotic could be say 25% and up. This would be modified by your relations with the empire, vs relations with the other empires in a particular battle. Along with the length of treaties with these empires. For example, you(human) have a 30 turn alliance (protectorate) with the phong(say, phong:friendly, you:impulsive), and you just signed a peace treaty (non-aggression) with the Xi'Chung the turn b4. (still murderous toward you, psychotic temperment). There is a threeway battle over one of your planets with the Phong being attacked by the Xi'Chung. You should not have to wait till after combat to break the treaty with the Xi'Chung, esp since you are in a protectoate treaty with the Phong, you are SUPPOSED to protect them. You SHOULD be able to open fire to protect the Phong. The same goes for if the Xi'Chung attack you(treaty broken b4 combat), and have a Non-aggession treaty with the Phong, that the Phong could protect your planet even though they had a treaty with the Xi'Chung.......
