Do you cheat?

I sadly admit that I like to cheat "a bit" while facing off against the computer.

I think my favourite part of the game is building my fleets and naming my ships. I hate having to constantly upgrade my ships as new tech comes availible so I "quickly" research my way ahead...

Do you know what bothers me? A distant empire that colonizes like crazy. I like to colonize only a few planets here and there but some of these AI colonize every possible site (like 100 planets in 15 systems)! It takes so long to snuff out all those planets!

Re: Do you cheat?

The closest thing to cheating that I do is use tactical combat almost exclusively, and capture/analyse AI ships.

Nothing beats a close-call tactical combat for thrilling roleplay action.

*BLAM**BLAM**BLAM*
"Shields are collapsing, captain! down to 20%!"
"Bring us about! Fire all ripper beams! Ramming speed!!!"
*kaboom*
"reactor overloading! antimatter leakage detected!"
"Sir, the enemy is in retreat, the colony has been sav...."

I like to play the Klingons, who disdain all stand-off weapons and special technologies. In compensation, they are geniuses at tactical combat.

I don't cheat, what I do is preform Operation Dirty Bastard. ODB for short. ODB is effectively using the AI's abilities against its self. Simply put, I trade up and anaylize AI ships, I put ships that can blow up stars in all AI systems while I am at peace with them, (We all know peace will not Last) and I send my long range ships out to the max of there supplies exploring, and then trade them off to the AI for better ships thus leaving them to the AI to deal with.

Actually, I don't think I do. I've go so far as to not use tactical combat vs computer players, so they have a fair chance. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Well.....Cheat.....only near the end when I'm trying to get some ring worlds (sometimes) I use the Tac combat only (unless I am in an OVER KILL) I find I can sometimes wipe emout and take NO damage where the AI will lose 1 or 2 ships I love this game!

Re: Do you cheat?

I have, but it was for making the StarBase components for SphereWorlds/RingWorlds... I didn't feel like taking the time to make one in an actual game, so I made a few in a no-AI game.

Other than that, I just use tactical combat http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Do you cheat?

Thats an interesting question, I cheat occasionally, But it doesn't really matter, as I only play against the computer.

The main cheating I ran into was a while back ago I was playing a game of SE3 with someone PBEM, 9 turns into the game he opened a warp point into my home system and destroyed my homeworld. I was stunned.

I asked him how in the world did he ever find me. He unashamedly told me that he opened warp point, if I wasn't there, he reloaded turn, open another, repeat untill he found me, Thus exploring the entire galaxy in one turn.

I was floored, I said "But, that's cheating." He went on to explain the "everyone" does it, and you simply can't compete in a game that allows warp point manip if you don't.

I told him he could have the game. And let him record the win. He didn't consider it cheating, I consider cheating to be anything you do that gives you an advantage that Aaron didn't plan for. If Aaron had wanted that he would have included a Undo button.

Anyway, That was my Last PBEM game, and will be my Last ever.

Re: Do you cheat?

Hrm, cheat? Not in this game. It's less necessary than, say, FO:2 (where you may have to at least save/reload due to the extreme lethality of critical hits) or the Gold Box games (especially _Pools of Darkness_ with LOTS of save-or-die situations).

capt_spoogy:

You don't have to send a fleet to wipe out all those planets if you can get him to surrender... or if you can PPP them away.

Re: Do you cheat?

Captain Spoogy likes to maintain massive fleets of individual named starships. He does not want to bother with managing 100 planets or rioting populations. Just 100's of starships is all he wants.
