OT: Dialup Friendly games.

nyone know any games that do well over 56k(or slightly slower speeds my phonelines tend to lag a bit)? Specicically action, Sims, FPSers or anything shoot-em-up.

So far Cube seems to do well if there's fewer then 8 people, and Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries works well with up to 16 people in a server(a little lag with balistic type weapons, but still ok overall, even with a 500 ping the game runs well save for when there's a join lag).

Guild Wars runs well, my other hardware like ram, and CPU are the problems when it comes to that one(though it takes a looong time to DL a new area)

Unreal Tournament 2k4 seems to do well, in a good server where I get less then 300 ping I can use the sniper rifle well, the link cannon, shock rifle and the rockets even the default assault rifle with a litle compensation, but if my ping goes past 300 it's all effed up. Also lots of servers have huge custom maps that take forever to get into, but if I avoid those and stick to pubs I have a little fun.

I've tried Tribes Vengence, Tribes 2, and Counter Strike, all 3 lag a little to much, even with a 200-300 ping. When I pull the trigger there's about a 1 or 2 second delay, making aiming nearly impossible. It's awkward firing a spinfuser and having the disc launch 2 seconds later, and dying, then seeing the explosion that killed you. I can cap the flag well, but it's hard fighting back...

Of course RTS and PBEM and turn based games like Sid Meier's Alpha centauri, LoL, and SE4 work, but I NEED BLOOD http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/mad.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image.../firedevil.gif So anyone know any action, FPS or sim games that either have small packets, good net code or some other ping reducing mesures?

Team Fortress Classic, for the original HL. I used to play that on 56k all the time and kicked some serious ***. I can't believe you are having problems with any HL mod since they all use the same netcode basically.

Alot of MMO games should work good since hey all have super-optmized netcode. You biggest problem would be downloading patches. I am currently playing Star Wars Galaxies, its pretty action packed.

Oddly enough, Mechwarriors, all of them, run great on a 56k. There's about 200 ping, but it doesn't hurt much of anything. I play it all the time over on a 56k connection when I'm forced to use one, without laggage.

Total Annihilation is probably kind to modems despite all the action.

Both Warcraft 3 and Dawn of War work excellent as well with dialup http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Oh good call on Renegade EaX, that was such an underrated game IMO, I still try to play when I can.
