Happiness
 
I've been playing for a few days, and I can't make heads or tails of what I'm supposed to do to keep the population happy. I'm creating most of the "happiness events" described in the manual, but the population seems to just get progressively worse. Most recently, the population complained about my "trade and research treaty", which according to the instructions, is a happiness event. What's the deal? Where can I get some detailed info on how to control this?

The manual states that the happiness events it speaks of are for a peaceful happiness type. Blood thirsty likes war type stuff to happen. Neutral likes just about nothing. The only happiness for them is non intercouse and none treaties as well as troop presences. Ship building, colonizing and others actions are negaitve happiness factors for neutral happiness

From the sounds of it, you have a bloodthirsty happiness type of people.

So, declare war and kill some alien scum, and your people will rejoice.

Also, build cheap, unarmed troops and spread them out about 20 on each planet. That'll send all your planet's happiness through the roof.

PS, don't lose battles, cause your people hate that, and will drop towards rioting.

I just figured it out - I actually picked a neutral culture - it was all pretty clear after I looked in the happiness text file. Thatnks for the responses.
